One must fully ripen the realm of sentient beings with immeasurable, countless, and inconceivable qualities. One must fully ripen such a realm of sentient beings, such immeasurable qualities, such countless qualities, such inconceivable qualities. Even if one does so, not even one percent of sentient beings will be ripened. Not even one part in a thousand, one part in a hundred thousand, one part in a million, one part in a hundred million, one part in a thousand million, one part in a hundred thousand million, nor in number, part, calculation, example, or cause will they be fully ripened. If a bodhisattva hears this detailed description and does not fear, does not tremble, and does not become frightened, then know that they are a bodhisattva who has exerted effort and diligence. This is the inexhaustible method of a bodhisattva for fully ripening sentient beings. What then is the inexhaustible accumulation of merit of a bodhisattva? The merit of a bodhisattva is immeasurable. A bodhisattva should enter into it through such a method of counting. All sentient beings, all past, present, and future learners and non-learners, and all the merit of all śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, however much merit there is, multiplying that merit by a hundred times, will accomplish one pore of the body of the Tathāgata. Likewise, multiplying by a hundred times the accumulation of merit belonging to all the pores, one will perfectly accomplish one inexhaustible accumulation of merit. By that, one excellent mark will be accomplished on the body of the Tathāgata. Likewise, all the excellent marks will be fully accomplished one by one. Multiplying by a thousand times the measure of the accumulation of merit belonging to all the excellent marks, one will accomplish one inexhaustible accumulation of merit. By that, one major mark of a great being will be manifestly accomplished on the body of the Tathāgata. Likewise, the thirty-two major marks of a great being will be manifestly accomplished one by one on the body. Multiplying by ten thousand times the accumulation of merit belonging to the thirty-two major marks of a great being, one will perfectly accomplish one inexhaustible accumulation of merit. By that, the Tathāgata

On the Body The ūrṇā hair between the eyebrows manifests the marks of a great being. By perfectly accumulating a mass of merit that is a thousand times greater than the mass of merit belonging to the ūrṇā hair, the uṣṇīṣa on the head of the Thus-Gone One, and the invisible crown of the head, manifest the marks of a great being. By perfectly accumulating a mass of merit that is even greater than the mass of merit belonging to the uṣṇīṣa, multiplied by hundreds of thousands of koṭis, the conch of the Dharma of the Thus-Gone One will be completely accomplished. If the Thus-Gone One wishes to make the limitless and boundless realms of the world aware of the sound of the conch of the Dharma, and to satisfy the faculties of all sentient beings according to their thoughts and faith, then it will be so. Hearing this entry into the accumulation of merit of a bodhisattva, not being afraid, not being frightened, and not being terrified, is called the inexhaustible accumulation of merit of a bodhisattva. What is the inexhaustible accumulation of wisdom of a bodhisattva? The accumulation of wisdom of a bodhisattva is immeasurable. Thus, a bodhisattva should enter by such enumerations as these. Even if all the sentient beings dwelling in the three-thousand great-thousand world system were endowed with the wisdom of following with faith, they would not even approach one part in a hundred of the wisdom of following the Dharma. They would not even approach one part in a thousand, one part in a hundred thousand, one part in a koṭi, one part in a hundred koṭis, one part in a thousand koṭis, one part in a hundred thousand koṭis, a number, a part, an enumeration, an example, or a cause. Similarly, those endowed with the wisdom of following the Dharma are those who are endowed with the wisdom of the eighth. Those endowed with the wisdom of the eighth are those who are endowed with the wisdom of entering the stream. Those endowed with the wisdom of entering the stream are those who are endowed with the wisdom of once returning. Those endowed with the wisdom of once returning are those who are endowed with the wisdom of not returning. Those endowed with the wisdom of not returning are those who are
