That is tolerance directed towards both, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "Who is scolding this?", that is tolerance of measuring and contemplating the Dharma, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "Are my eyes being scolded by eyes?", and similarly, "Are my ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind being scolded by mind?", that is tolerance of contemplating the sense bases, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "No one is scolding here," that is tolerance of contemplating selflessness, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "These are the sounds of letters arising," that is tolerance of the sound of an echo, and that is not extreme tolerance. This too is impermanent, and I too am impermanent, if one tolerates by saying that, that is tolerance of engaging with impermanence, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "This is inverted, but I am not inverted," that is tolerance of high and low, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "I am reasonable, but this is unreasonable," that is tolerance of reason and unreason, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "I abide on the good path, but this one abides on the bad path," that is tolerance of the path and non-path, and that is not extreme tolerance. If one tolerates by saying, "I tolerate impermanence, but I do not tolerate permanence," that is tolerance of abandoning through antidotes, and that is not extreme tolerance. I tolerate suffering, but I do not tolerate happiness. I tolerate selflessness, but I do not tolerate self. I tolerate the unpleasant, but I do not tolerate the pleasant, this is called tolerance of abandoning through antidotes, and that is not extreme tolerance. I tolerate emptiness, but I do not tolerate the aspect of viewing. I tolerate the signless, but I do not tolerate the conceptualization of signs. I tolerate the wishless, but I do not tolerate wishes. I tolerate non-manifestation of action, but I do not tolerate manifestation of action. I tolerate non-exhaustion of afflictions, but I do not tolerate the exhaustion of afflictions. I tolerate virtue

Patience. I am not patient with non-virtue. I am patient with transcendence, but I am not patient with the mundane. I am patient with the faultless, but I am not patient with the faulty. I am patient with the uncontaminated, but I am not patient with the contaminated. I am patient with the purified, but I am not patient with all defilements. I am patient with nirvana, but I am not patient with samsara. This is called patience that abandons through antidotes, but it is not the ultimate patience. So, what is the ultimate patience? For one who realizes emptiness, there is no elimination of what has become a view, nor is there any superimposition on emptiness. The very thing that has become a view is empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes the signless, there is no elimination of the appearance of signs, nor is there any superimposition on the signless. The very appearance of signs is empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes the wishless, there is no elimination of wishes, nor is there any superimposition on the wishless. Wishes themselves are empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes the non-intentional, there is no elimination of intentionality, nor is there any superimposition on the non-intentional. Intentionality itself is empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes the exhaustion of afflictions, there is no elimination of afflictions, nor is there any superimposition on the exhaustion of afflictions. Afflictions themselves are empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes virtue, there is no elimination of non-virtue, nor is there any superimposition on virtue. Non-virtue itself is empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes transcendence, there is no elimination of the mundane, nor is there any superimposition on transcendence. The mundane itself is empty. Patience with this is the ultimate patience. For one who realizes faultlessness, there is no elimination of faultiness, nor is there any superimposition on faultlessness. Faultiness itself is empty. With this
