Clinging to mundane dharmas, hoping for transcendent dharmas, clinging to conventional speech as the nature of ultimate reality, and abiding in two dharmas will not lead to or enter this dharma. Why is that? Because such a person does not understand the mundane, does not understand the transcendent, but practices two dharmas. When practicing the two dharmas of clinging to the mundane, one will not comprehend or realize the mundane and the transcendent. World Holder, the great bodhisattvas, are thus extremely skilled in mundane and transcendent dharmas, and have also attained the yoga of mundane and transcendent dharmas. The chapter on mundane and transcendent dharmas is the ninth. World Holder, what is it that the great bodhisattvas are extremely skilled in conditioned and unconditioned dharmas? What is it to have attained the yoga of conditioned and unconditioned dharmas? World Holder, the great bodhisattvas discriminate and truly realize conditioned and unconditioned dharmas. How then does one discriminate and truly realize conditioned dharmas? Conditioned dharmas are manifest aggregates, without feeling. Conditioned dharmas are self-arisen and belong to the category of self-enumeration, therefore they are called conditioned dharmas. Conditioned dharmas arise from the power of fabrication due to the aggregation of unreal causes and conditions. Fabrication means belonging to the category of enumeration and being known through the conditions of two characteristics, hence it is named conditioned dharma. That conditioned dharma is not made, nor is it the maker, but it is self-arisen, so there is no creation either. Therefore, it is called conditioned dharma. Conditioned dharmas do not abide within, do not abide without, do not abide between the two, are not one, are not different, but arise from unreal imputation. They do not exist because they arise from the power of ignorance, but there is activity through the power of fabrication, yet it is not made, nor is it arisen, therefore it is called conditioned. What is called conditioned is bound by characteristics.

That is the meaning. It is explained because foolish people are attached to perverted and reversed views. Wise people deeply understand and realize that they do not fixate on conditioned dharmas as conditioned dharmas, nor do they fixate on realization as conditioned dharmas. Wise people are called conditioned dharmas because they are countless. What is the reason for this? How do wise people understand and realize the nature of conditioned dharmas? Wise people see all conditioned dharmas as not being true, without substance, without bonds, and not to be regarded as countable. When they fully realize this, they do not become attached to conditioned dharmas, nor do they accept them. What is the reason for this? World protector, there is no unconditioned dharma other than conditioned dharma, nor is there conditioned dharma other than unconditioned dharma. The very nature of conditioned dharma is unconditioned. What is the reason for this? There is no conditioned within the conditioned, and no unconditioned within the unconditioned, but for the sake of beings who have become perverted and reversed to know and see the nature of the conditioned, it is distinguished and explained: This is conditioned. This is unconditioned. This is the nature of the conditioned. This is the nature of the unconditioned. What is called the nature of the conditioned? For example: arising, ceasing, abiding, and changing. What is called the nature of the unconditioned? For example: not arising, not ceasing, not abiding, and not changing. Thus, the nature of the conditioned and the nature of the unconditioned are spoken to guide various different beings. World protector, conditioned dharma is the nature of not arising, the nature of not ceasing, the nature of not abiding, and the nature of not changing. What is said about abiding and changing is also without characteristics and without arising. If it is certain that unconditioned dharma has three natures, then the Bhagavan would have clearly said: These are the natures of arising, these are the natures of ceasing, these are the natures of abiding and changing. World protector, the Tathagata...
