Son, that which performs all actions bound by the power of maturation is called taking. Moreover, this body is made of the four great elements and certainly has no true nature; all that belongs to the form aggregate is called body. Why is it called body? Because it is capable of performing actions, it is called body. Because it clings to and is attached to the place of support, it is called body. Because it always follows the mind, it is called body. Because it arises from conceptual thought, it is called body. Because it is made from an accumulation of illusions, it is called body. Because of karma and accumulation, it is called body. This body will soon decay and change, and its nature is impermanent and uncertain. This body does not dwell inside the body, it does not dwell outside the body, it does not dwell between the two. This body cannot be known as a body, it cannot be seen as a body. This body has no doer, no movement, no desires, no mind; it is no different from stone and wood. This body has no definite nature of a body. Thus, if one truly analyzes and examines the body, there is no doing, no doer. This body has no beginning, no end, no middle. This body has not a single characteristic of being permanent, stable, or solid, just like a water bubble that cannot be grasped or held. This body is a house where eighty thousand worms dwell. This body is tormented by various kinds of karma. Because of the three kinds of suffering, this body is suffering; because it has no protector, it is the suffering of conditioning, the suffering of change, and the suffering of being tormented by suffering upon suffering, it is a container of many sufferings, suffering from all sufferings. Thus, having truly followed the body with awareness of the body, one thinks, 'This body is not me, not other, without power, without self-effort here, it is made.' This body is without substance, it is an unobservable, definite dharma. This body is empty by nature, without a definite characteristic. This body arises from what is not true, like something made from a magic wheel; it is the cause and condition of past karma.

Because it arises from conditions, people develop the concept of "I" and "mine" regarding this body. We also do not think that the body and life are unimportant. When a Bodhisattva fully comprehends this as it is, they do not perceive this body as being together or separate, nor do they see it as coming from elsewhere, or having a place to go separately, or having a place to rely on. Because they do not perceive this body as existing in the past, future, or present, they do not dwell on the body and life. They do not become attached to the body as "I" or "mine," and thus completely abandon the clinging to the body. The Bodhisattva thus fully realizes that this body is emptiness, selflessness, and without ownership. Because there is no clinging to "I" and "mine" regarding this body, they do not fixate on the characteristics of the body. The Bodhisattva thus does not fixate on the characteristics of the body, so they have no expectation of entering the body, and there is no path for the body to be produced or arise. What is that entering? It is that this body is unmade and unarisen. This body is characterized by being unmade and unarisen, so it arises from many causes and conditions. The body is formed from the aggregation of causes and conditions, but the causes and conditions are unreal, nonexistent, inverted, empty, and without essence. This body arises from such causes and conditions. The causes and conditions themselves are unborn and without characteristics, so when one contemplates the body in this way, one will enter the characteristic of the unborn body. Having entered in this way, one will realize that the body has no characteristics. Having realized that the body has no characteristics as it truly is, one will know that this body has no sign. Because there is no fixation on signs, one knows that there is no birth. This body has no sign of the past, no sign of the future, and no sign of the present. Why is that? Because for this body, there is no fixation on a dharma that is determined by its own nature, because this body has no fixation on "I" and "other." When one fully understands in this way, one will know that this body does not come from anywhere and does not go anywhere, and thus one will enter the path of the unborn and unceasing body.
