It is not the future. Attachment and grasping are not simultaneous, although grasping does not arise from attachment, but because there is attachment, and because cause and condition are simultaneous, it is nominally called subsequent grasping. Grasping and attachment are not simultaneous, nor are they other than attachment. Attachment is also not simultaneous with grasping, because it is not different from grasping, so it does not dwell within attachment, it does not dwell outside of attachment, it does not dwell between the two. If attachment itself has no object, what need to mention that grasping arises from the condition of attachment? The definite characteristic of grasping has no object. The wise realize that grasping is also not real, and that there is nothing at all, because there is no characteristic of grasping within grasping, so grasping is not past, not future, not present. Grasping does not dwell within grasping, it does not dwell outside of grasping, it does not dwell between the two. It arises from perversion and is born from cause and condition. Grasping is named from the aggregation of many conditions. No dharma is simultaneous or separate. Grasping has no self-nature, and although there is no definite dharma, foolish ordinary beings perceive unreal grasping. Because all formations are unreal, worldly people are bound by grasping. The wise realize that grasping is unreal, empty, without essence, without substance, and that there is not even a little bit of definite dharma that can be objectified. Because of grasping, there is existence. Grasping does not come relying on existence. Because grasping can produce existence, it is not that existence is caused by grasping. Existence does not dwell within grasping, nor does it dwell outside of grasping, nor does it dwell between the two. Existence does not dwell in grasping. Grasping is neither simultaneous nor separate from existence, but because many conditions are gathered together, it is said that existence is caused by grasping. Grasping cannot produce existence, and grasping cannot distinguish existence. If grasping itself is unreal and without anything, what need is there to say that existence is caused by grasping? There is no need to rely on existence. Existence itself is not objectified as existence, and existence itself is within existence.

Does not abide. It does not abide outside of existence. It does not abide between the two, therefore existence is not past, not future, nor present. The wise consider existence to be not true, to be inverted, not simultaneous, nor separate, therefore existence is of the nature of ignorance, and cannot be distinguished. Existence does not abide in a place, nor does it abide in a direction. Existence has no prior limit, no posterior limit, and no present limit. Existence is neither existent nor non-existent, therefore, within the twelve links of dependent origination, existence is understood and realized. Wise and intelligent ones fully realize existence as emptiness, devoid of essence, illusory, like chaff. The so-called 'birth due to existence' is not that existence comes in dependence on birth. Birth is neither simultaneous with existence, nor separate. Birth does not abide within existence, nor does it abide outside of existence, nor does it abide between the two. Existence does not produce birth, nor does birth arise separately from existence, but because the twelve links of dependent origination support each other in an unbroken continuum, it is said that birth arises due to existence. Existence and birth are neither one causing the other, nor not causing the other, because existence itself is without an object of focus, so what need is there to mention birth arising due to existence? The wise realize that birth does not abide in existence, birth has no characteristic of birth, birth has no self-nature, birth has no essence, therefore they realize that there is not even a single phenomenon that can be definitively pointed to. The wise thus realize that birth has no self-nature and nothing at all, because in order to show that the twelve links of dependent origination support each other, it is merely a continuous stream, therefore they fully understand that birth is said to arise due to existence. Birth has no quality of being simultaneous or separate, birth does not abide within existence, it does not abide outside of existence, nor does it abide between the two. Birth is not past, not future, nor present. Birth has no object of focus in the prior limit, the posterior limit, or the intermediate limit.

Since birth does not exist as a real entity, wise people fully realize that it arises from the aggregation of many causes and conditions, is associated with inversion, is not true, and arises from something that is like an illusion, devoid of anything. The so-called aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering due to birth are not because birth relies on aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering, nor can birth produce aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering. Aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering do not dwell within birth, do not dwell outside of birth, nor do they dwell between the two. Aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering abide in birth, and because of birth, aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering are spoken of, which is also to show the Dharma arising from many causes and conditions. Birth itself is neither simultaneous with aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering, nor is it separate. If there is nothing to cling to in birth itself, what more to say about aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, crying, and suffering arising from birth? There is no aging and death or suffering to cling to in aging and death and suffering themselves. Why is that? Because aging and death and suffering themselves do not dwell within aging and death and suffering, do not dwell in external objects, nor do they dwell between the two. Aging and death and suffering are not past, not future, and not present. Aging and death and suffering themselves are neither simultaneous with aging and death and suffering, nor are they separate. Associated with inversion, the aggregation of many causes and conditions, the gathering of the twelve links of dependent origination, therefore it is said that aging and death and suffering arise from birth as a condition. Aging and death and suffering have no dwelling place, and there is no definite nature to cling to in aging and death and suffering. Aging and death and suffering have no past limit, no future limit, and no present limit to cling to. Wise people also regarding aging and death and suffering
