It is not dependent on the earth either. It is said that beings with inverted and confused wisdom generate consciousness of the karma of formation, but that consciousness does not reside within the karma of formation, nor does it reside outside the karma of formation, nor does it reside between the two. The arising of consciousness is also non-existent, but consciousness arises from the uninterrupted continuity of the karma of formation. If the wise seek the nature of consciousness, it is invisible, because the arising of consciousness is invisible, consciousness does not know consciousness, consciousness does not see consciousness, consciousness does not abide in consciousness. Because of consciousness as a condition, there are name and form, name and form do not abide in consciousness, without consciousness, name and form do not arise. That name and form are from consciousness, produced by the object of future consciousness, the ignorance of each sentient being becomes name and form. It is not the case that consciousness produces name and form. If the wise examine it, they cannot see name and form, name and form are without form and without direction, arising from inverted discrimination. It is said that the nature of form exists because of consciousness as a condition, if consciousness itself is invisible, what need is there to say that form arises because of consciousness as a condition? There is no place where form is definitely established. Because of name and form as a condition, there are six sense bases. It is unreasonable to say that form arises because of the six sense bases as a condition. Name resides in the body, the breath moves in and out, causing the body, mind, and mental phenomena to increase. The six sense bases are like illusions, arising from discrimination from nothingness, there is a place for inversion and confusion. Because of the six sense bases as a condition, there is contact. If contact exists dependent on form, then contact does not exist in form. Why is that? Because form is of a nature without consciousness, no different from stone and wood, but because it arises from the six sense bases, it is distinguished and established as contact. Why is that? Because

Since the six sense bases themselves are not truly existent, what need is there to mention contact? Contact is empty, devoid of anything, arising from the perverted conceptualization. Contact does not abide in a place, nor does it abide in a direction. Contact itself is empty, for without the characteristic of contact, contact does not know the six sense bases. Nor do the six sense bases know contact. That which is called feeling, conditioned by contact, feeling does not abide within contact, nor does it abide outside of contact. It does not abide between the two. Contact does not come relying on feeling from a separate place, but feeling arises from contact. Contact itself is not truly existent, and if there is no contact, what need is there to mention feeling? Feeling has no definitive characteristic. Feeling arises perversely from non-existence, and the action of perversion exists. That which is called craving, conditioned by feeling, feeling does not come relying on craving from a separate place. Feeling itself is not simultaneous with craving. Feeling does not know craving, nor does it conceptualize craving. Nor does craving know feeling, nor does it conceptualize feeling. Craving is also not simultaneous with feeling, for feeling does not abide in craving, and there is no feeling separate from craving. Since feeling itself has no characteristic of feeling, what need is there to mention craving conditioned by feeling? Feeling does not abide within craving, nor does it abide outside of craving, nor does it abide between the two. Craving itself does not abide within craving, nor does it abide outside of craving, nor does it abide between the two. There is no characteristic of craving to be pointed out within craving. Craving is not truly existent, it is a conceptualization associated with perversion, and craving is merely designated. Craving is not past, not future, and not present. Craving does not arise from bondage, nor does it arise from non-bondage. But from the uninterrupted continuum of causes and conditions supporting each other, craving conditioned by feeling is designated. The wise do not abide in the place of craving, nor do they abide in a direction. They know it to be empty like a bubble, without essence, not truly existent, and devoid of anything. That which is called grasping, conditioned by craving, craving does not come relying on grasping from a separate place.
