All manifest formations are without an object of observation. All phenomena arise from conditions, therefore all who observe them are without an object of observation. Regarding all dependent arising phenomena, what is certain and uniquely true, all afflictions are non-afflictions, utterly peaceful, and the emptiness by which enlightenment is realized, that is, by the emptiness of emptiness all afflictions are emptied, whoever comprehends emptiness in this way, this is called subduing afflictions, whoever speaks these words, speaks of subduing. Subduing for the sake of subduing self, whoever knows the subduing of self, knows the subduing of afflictions. So, what is subduing self? It is knowing self as non-self, knowing the nature of self, knowing self as solitary, knowing self as it is, knowing self as unconfused, knowing self as emptiness, knowing self as non-entity, knowing self as suchness, knowing self as invisible, knowing self as without wildness, knowing self as without fabrication, knowing self as constantly unborn. Whoever knows self in this way, knows all forms of afflictions. Just as the inverted perception of clinging to self in non-self, similarly, the inverted perception of clinging to afflictions in non-afflictions. Just as self is inherently without self, similarly, the nature of afflictions is also non-afflictions. Whoever knows this through higher seeing is called subduing afflictions. Therefore, past afflictions are not subdued, future afflictions are not subdued, and present afflictions are not subdued. Why is that? Because what is without an object of observation and without mental engagement is the subduing of afflictions. What is without an object of observation and without mental engagement is not past, not future, and not present. Just as mind is not form, not inside, not outside, and not visible in between, similarly, afflictions are also not form, not inside, not outside, and not visible in between. Because of being invisible, all afflictions are harmless, without peace, without action, without transformation, without a doer, without a transformer.

It is also like that. Whoever knows that afflictions arise and perish in this way, this is also subduing afflictions. When this teaching of truth, dharma, meaning, and discipline was taught, thousands of bodhisattvas arose with patience for the unarisen dharma. The Jewel Daughter felt content and pleased, rejoiced and was exceedingly delighted, and joy and peace of mind arose, and she said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, it is wonderful that the Thus-Gone One has so well spoken this teaching of truth, dharma, meaning, and discipline! Blessed One, those bodhisattvas who speak in this way are dedicated to non-contention, and they will teach the dharma in order to abandon the contention of all sentient beings. Daughter, a bodhisattva who has thoroughly subdued afflictions in this way, because he teaches the dharma in order to subdue the afflictions of others, is therefore called a speaker of discipline. The chapter on the exposition of truth is finished. Second volume. Then, the venerable Shariputra said this to the Jewel Daughter: Daughter, are you a speaker of truth, dharma, meaning, and discipline? The Jewel Daughter said: Venerable Shariputra, truth is inexpressible. Dharma is detachment from desire. Meaning is unspeakable. Discipline is the solitude of body and mind, and this cannot be answered. Venerable Shariputra, furthermore, truth is the truth of cessation. Dharma is the nature of truth. Meaning is devoid of words and syllables. Discipline is the nature of liberation. This cannot be answered with words. Venerable Shariputra, furthermore, truth is suchness. Dharma is non-other suchness. Meaning is the meaning of non-duality. Discipline is the meaning of non-action. This is inexpressible and unshowable. The venerable Shariputra again said this to the Jewel Daughter: Daughter, what kind of jewel have you taken, that you are called Jewel? After saying this, the Jewel Daughter said this to the venerable Shariputra: Venerable Shariputra, these thirty-two are the
