When this was spoken, thirty-two thousand beings from among all creatures, including gods and humans, generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Five thousand bodhisattvas also generated tolerance for the dharma of non-arising. Those bodhisattvas who had gathered from various buddhafields also covered this threefold great thousandfold world realm with divine flowers up to their knees in order to make offerings to the Bhagavan. Then, the youth Net Light said to Brahma Superior Mind, "Brahma, you are said by the Bhagavan to be the best of those skilled in asking bodhisattvas questions properly. How then does one ask so that it is a proper question for a bodhisattva?" Superior Mind said, "Son of good family, if one asks clinging to self, one asks improperly. If one asks clinging to other, one asks improperly. If one asks clinging to dharma, one asks improperly. Net Light, whatever is without clinging to self, without clinging to other, and without clinging to dharma, that is asking properly. Furthermore, Net Light, if one asks for the sake of arising, one asks improperly. If one asks for the sake of ceasing, that is improper. If one asks for the sake of being or non-being, that is improper. Net Light, whatever dharma one does not ask for the sake of arising, or for the sake of ceasing, or for the sake of being or non-being, that is asking properly. Furthermore, Net Light, if one asks for the sake of affliction, that is improper. If one asks for the sake of purification, that is improper. If one asks for the sake of samsara, that is improper. If one asks for the sake of utterly turning away from samsara, that is improper. If one asks for the sake of complete nirvana, that is improper. Net Light, whatever one does not ask for the sake of affliction, nor for the sake of purification, nor for the sake of samsara, nor for the sake of utterly turning away from samsara, nor for the sake of complete nirvana, that is asking properly.

This is questioning. Why is that? Because the unchanging nature of the Dharma is not defiled by afflictions, does not become purified, does not revolve in samsara, and does not completely pass beyond suffering. Furthermore, if one asks in order to obtain the light of the net, that is not in accordance with the Dharma. If one asks in order to manifest, that is not in accordance with the Dharma. If one asks in order to realize, that is not in accordance with the Dharma. If one asks in order to fully understand and meditate, that is not in accordance with the Dharma. If one asks in order to separate, that is not in accordance with the Dharma. The light of the net, in which there is no obstruction, no grasping, no manifest fabrication, no universal discrimination, no realization, no place, no meditation, and no observation of meditation, that is questioning in accordance with the Dharma. Furthermore, the light of the net, this is virtuous, this is non-virtuous, this is with outflows, this is without outflows, this is with fault, this is without fault, this is conditioned, this is unconditioned, this is worldly, this is beyond worldly, to ask in this way is not in accordance with the Dharma. To the extent that the light of the net is questioned in a dualistic way, to that extent it is not in accordance with the Dharma. The light of the net, in which there is no duality, no non-duality, no concept, no name, and no involvement of universality, that is questioning in accordance with the Dharma. Furthermore, the light of the net, making Buddhas
