One quickly attains patience. The Brahma Bodhisattva who possesses such patience delights in the giving of all dharmas without abandoning anything. He delights in the discipline of all dharmas without guarding anything. He delights in the patience of all dharmas without arrogance. He delights in the diligence of all dharmas without contrivance. He delights in the samadhi of the equality of all dharmas. He delights in the wisdom that all dharmas are non-conceptual. Because he delights in this way, he neither increases nor decreases. It is not acting, nor is it creating. Giving is also giving, but without hoping for fruition. Discipline is also guarding, but without clinging to fabrications. Patience is also cultivating, but because of inner and outer emptiness. Diligence is also initiating, but because there is no completion. Samadhi is also dwelling in equality, but because there is no abiding place. Wisdom is also cultivating, but because there are no characteristics. The Brahma Bodhisattva who possesses such patience manifests all actions, but is not stained by actions. Because he is not stained, he attains equality in all dharmas, and even if he gains something, it is not taken away. Not gaining is also not, pleasant words are also not, unpleasant words are also not, slander is also not, praise is also not, suffering also does not, and happiness also does not take him away. He completely transcends all worldly dharmas, is free from the mind of dualistic grasping, and in order to realize the non-dual dharma, he neither becomes arrogant nor humble, does not accumulate, nor become angry, does not harm, nor universally harm, is not arrogant, nor negligent, nor universally negligent. In order to fully ripen all sentient beings, for the sake of those sentient beings who have fallen into dualistic views, he generates great compassion and deliberately takes rebirth. Brahma, whoever thoroughly attains this patience of selflessness, will generate great compassion for all sentient beings. Holding this birth is the supreme act of initiating diligence. When this teaching on initiating diligence was taught, eight thousand Bodhisattvas obtained the dharma of non-arising.

Generated forbearance. All those, the Blessed One predicted with a common name that they would attain complete and perfect enlightenment in different Buddhafields, named Tathagata Perseverance Steadfast. Then, in that assembly, the venerable Maha Kasyapa, being present, addressed the Blessed One thus: Blessed One, for example, when those great dragons rain, they rain in the great ocean, not in other places. Blessed One, similarly, these noble beings, similar to great dragons, also rain such Dharma rain on the mindstreams of noble beings like the great ocean, not on other sentient beings. The Blessed One said: Kasyapa, it is as you say, but those great dragon kings are not stingy in not raining on Jambudvipa. Why is that? Because the land of Jambudvipa cannot withstand rain as thick as a chariot axle. Kasyapa, if those great dragons were to rain on Jambudvipa, it would lift up and carry away the villages, cities, mountains, rocks, hills, surroundings, and abysses of Jambudvipa, just as water in a pottery lifts up a camphor leaf. Therefore, those great dragons do not rain on Jambudvipa. Kasyapa, similarly, these noble beings are not stingy in not raining the great Dharma rain on other sentient beings, but they are not vessels for such Dharma. Therefore, those noble beings rain the great Dharma rain on those who have excellent wisdom like the ocean. Kasyapa, for example, even if rain as thick as a chariot axle falls, the great ocean neither decreases nor increases. Kasyapa, similarly, even if those noble beings listen to or speak the Dharma for eight kalpas, the Dharma will neither decrease nor increase. For example, in that great ocean...

All the waters that flow from the various tributaries of the four great rivers become one taste of salt. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals, upon hearing the teachings expounded in various ways, immediately believe in the one taste of emptiness. For example, the great ocean is pure, clean, immaculate, clear, and without turbidity; it does not hold turbid water. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals are also pure, clean, immaculate, and clear; they do not hold any harmful thoughts, hatred, anger, or resentment. For example, the great ocean is deep and difficult to fathom. Similarly, those noble individuals are deeply immersed in the profound principles of Dharma, and the depth of all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas is difficult to fathom. For example, the great ocean has immeasurable water and an immeasurable collection of jewels. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals have immeasurable wisdom and an immeasurable collection of Dharma jewels. O Good Guardian, for example, the great ocean is the source of various jewels. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals are also the source of immeasurable Dharma jewels through various realizations. O Good Guardian, for example, In the great ocean, some jewels are valuable, some are not valuable, and some are like pearls; there are these three kinds. O Good Guardian, similarly, when those noble individuals teach the Dharma according to the faculties of sentient beings, they also lead the minds of those of the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and those of the lower vehicles towards the Great Vehicle. O Good Guardian, for example, the great ocean does not exist for the sake of one sentient being. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals do not generate the mind of enlightenment for the sake of one sentient being. O Good Guardian, for example, the great ocean gradually slopes, gradually flows, and gradually descends. O Good Guardian, similarly, those noble individuals also gradually incline towards omniscience and gradually flow towards omniscience.
