So. Then, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I have heard and received directly from the Blessed One that there are two things that should be done by the assembly of monks: to speak about the Dharma, or to abide in the silence of the noble ones. Blessed One, if the hearers are not able to do this, then how does the Tathagata speak about the Dharma to the hearers? Or abide in the silence of the noble ones? Blessed One, this meaning has been briefly shown." The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, what do you think? Do the hearers speak about the Dharma without hearing it? Or do they abide in the silence of the noble ones with one-pointedness?" He replied: "No, Blessed One." The Blessed One said: "Subhuti, in this way, it should be understood that there is no Dharma talk for the hearers and solitary Buddhas, nor is there the silence of the noble ones." Then, the youth Manjushri said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, does the venerable one know the eighty-four thousand conducts of sentient beings that are known by the Tathagata? Or does the venerable one's wisdom enter into those to whom such words should be spoken, to whom words in accordance with them should be shown?" He replied: "Manjushri, no." Manjushri said: "Venerable Subhuti, abiding in what samadhi does he look at the conduct of the minds of all sentient beings, and without obscuring his own mind and the minds of others, does he abide in the samadhi of looking at the minds of all sentient beings?" He replied: "Manjushri, no." Manjushri said: "Venerable Subhuti, the Tathagata speaks the Dharma by showing remedies appropriate to each of the eighty-four thousand conducts of sentient beings. He does not move from the equality of samadhi, and he also knows very well the conduct of the minds of all sentient beings. Venerable Subhuti, in this way, it should also be understood that this is not the realm of hearers and solitary Buddhas." "Venerable Subhuti, those sentient beings who engage in desire are liberated by the aspect of the repulsive, and the non-repulsive

There are also those who are not liberated by love, and the Tathagata fully knows them. Sentient beings who act with anger, some are liberated by seeing their faults, but not liberated by love, and the Tathagata fully knows them. Sentient beings who act with ignorance, some are liberated by reproach, but not liberated by teaching the Dharma, and the Tathagata fully knows them. Sentient beings who act with equanimity, neither liberated by a hateful appearance, nor liberated by a non-hateful appearance, nor liberated by love, nor liberated by fault, nor liberated by teaching the Dharma, nor liberated by reproach. For those, the Tathagata teaches the Dharma in such a way as to liberate them from the basis of equality, and the Tathagata fully knows them. Subhuti, in this way, it should be understood that the Tathagata is the best of Dharma speakers, the best of meditators, and the best of those who delight in non-speaking. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the youth Manjushri: Manjushri, if the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot speak the Dharma, nor abide in the non-speaking of the noble ones, then how do Bodhisattvas who possess such qualities speak the Dharma, and abide in the non-speaking of the noble ones? Manjushri said: Venerable Subhuti, if the Tathagata is present and knows, then please ask the Tathagata about this. At that time, the Bhagavan said to the Venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, all the practices following the Dharma of all Buddhas, there is a Samadhi called "Undistracted Mind," any Bodhisattvas who obtain this Samadhi, they will all possess these qualities. Then, the youth Manjushri said to the Bodhisattva abiding in equality: Noble son, whether it be the eighty-four thousand conducts, or the eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma that are taught.

This is called a Dharma talk. This is the absorption that stops all perceptions and feelings, which is the state of the noble ones who do not speak. Son of good family, even if I were to prophesy for a kalpa or more than a kalpa, based on the Dharma talk and the state of the noble ones who do not speak, my eloquence would not be exhausted. Then, the Bhagavan addressed the Brahmin who was abiding in equanimity, like the son of a great sala tree: Son of good family, in the past, there occurred a kalpa called "Well-Sounding and Widely Proclaimed" from a time that was more countless than countless kalpas, vast and immeasurable. At that time, in that era, in the world called "Seeing Joy," there appeared in the world a Tathagata, an Arhat, a Perfectly Complete Buddha, complete in knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a Knower of the World, a Tamer of Beings, a Charioteer, an unsurpassed being, a Teacher of Gods and Humans, a Buddha, a Bhagavan named All-Illuminating Light. The world of the Bhagavan All-Illuminating Light, "Seeing Joy," was completely adorned with all kinds of jewels, prosperous and abundant, very happy and auspicious, delightful and pleasing, and filled with gods and humans. That world was completely perfumed with all kinds of fragrances, so that it was as soft to the touch as cotton, as comfortable to the touch as a Kacalindika garment, and equally adorned with the seven precious substances. In that world of "Seeing Joy," there were four hundred million continents, each of which was eighty-four thousand yojanas in size. All of those great cities were adorned with all kinds of jewels, and their size was equal to one yojana. Each great city was surrounded by five hundred villages, mountain dwellings, rural areas, and towns. In all the villages, cities, towns, and lands, many hundreds of thousands of beings lived. Everything that appeared before the eyes of those people appeared pleasing and delightful, and nothing displeasing appeared. Those people also attained the samadhi of mindfulness of the Buddha. Therefore, that world is called "Seeing Joy." Buddha
