Whether the Brahmins arise or do not arise, this realm of Dharma abides. Likewise, samsara and likewise nirvana are also the truths of the noble ones, constantly without interruption. Why is that? Brahmin, it is not the truth of the noble ones for the sake of abandoning samsara. It is also not the truth of the noble ones for the sake of attaining nirvana. Brahmin, whoever manifests and realizes these four noble truths of the noble ones in this way, those are the ones who speak the truth. Furthermore, Brahmin, in the future, there will be some monks who have not cultivated their bodies, have not cultivated their minds, have not cultivated their discipline, and have not cultivated their wisdom. Those will say that the arising of suffering is the noble truth of suffering. Because of the arising of accumulation, the arising of accumulation is the noble truth of accumulation. Because of the destruction of things, cessation is the noble truth of cessation. Because of the arising of the path, the path is said to be the noble truth of the path. Those foolish people, I say, are Hearers and non-Buddhists. Those who say that the destruction of things is the noble truth of cessation are those who have entered the wrong path. I am not their teacher, and they are not my Hearers. Brahmin, look, sitting under the Bodhi tree, I have not understood what is true or false. Would the Tathagata teach or explain to others the Dharma that I have not understood? They replied: World Honored One, it is not so. The World Honored One said: The Tathagatas do not focus on Bodhi, they are unattached, and they are separated from all sentient beings of existence. Then the Brahmin Superior Mind spoke to the World Honored One with this thought: World Honored One, if the Tathagata enters the Bodhi tree and does not focus on any Dharma, then by what manifestation is the Tathagata said to have attained Bodhi and become a perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha? The World Honored One said: Brahmin, what do you think? Are these conditioned or unconditioned Dharmas that I have taught true or not true? They replied: World Honored One,

There is no time. There is no Tathagata. The Blessed One said: Brahma, do those dharmas that do not exist, exist? Or do they not exist? He replied: Blessed One, that which does not exist cannot be said to exist or not exist. The Blessed One said: For that which is neither existent nor nonexistent, is there any perfect enlightenment? He replied: Blessed One, for that, there is no perfect enlightenment. The Blessed One said: Brahma, thus the Tathagata, having entered the essence of enlightenment, knows that the afflictions arising from perversion are completely unproduced by nature, and also truly knows how to completely not know, and also truly does not perceive. Why is that? Brahma, I have not seen, heard, remembered, thought, or distinguished any dharma that I have thus perfectly awakened to. It is also without grasping, without joining, unspeakable, without following, beyond all realms, unspeakable, utterly unspeakable, without deliberation, impossible to realize, without letters, without a path of words, without discrimination. Brahma, thus, do you wish to realize the dharma that is like the sky? He replied: Blessed One, no. Blessed One, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, possess inconceivable great compassion and are endowed with dharma. Having thus perfectly awakened to the utterly peaceful dharma, it is wonderful that they make others understand with letters and definite words! Blessed One, those sentient beings who have faith in the dharma taught by the Tathagata do not possess evil roots of virtue. Why is that? Blessed One, this dharma is not in accordance with all the world. He said: Brahma, how is it not in accordance with all the world? He replied: Blessed One, how the world is attached to truth, but this dharma is neither true nor false. How the world is attached to dharma, but this dharma is neither dharma nor non-dharma. How the world is attached to Nirvana, but this dharma
