O venerable one. How do those who abide in faith conduct themselves? The Blessed One replied: When they are devoted to all teachings as being beyond expression. The venerable one asked: How do those who abide in learning conduct themselves? The Blessed One replied: When they are not attached to any sounds. The venerable one asked: How do those who possess a sense of shame conduct themselves? The Blessed One replied: Through fully understanding the inner self. The venerable one asked: How do those who are richly endowed with modesty conduct themselves? The Blessed One replied: Through abandoning external sources of birth. The venerable one asked: Blessed One, how do Bodhisattvas gather all qualities and become all-pervading? The Blessed One replied: Through the complete purification of the actions of body, speech, and mind. Then the Blessed One spoke these verses at that time: The body is utterly pure and does not commit evil, speech is also utterly pure, always abandoning all falsehoods, the mind is also pure, always thinking without defilement. Therefore, that one is said by the Victorious Ones to be all-pervading. Meditating on the unattractive, they are not attached by desire, abiding in love, they are not violent with hatred, abiding in pure wisdom, they are not foolish with ignorance. The wise ones say that they are all-pervading. They meditate in the village in the same way, and in the forest, village, and retinue in the same way, they do not change their conduct. Therefore, the Victorious Ones say that they are all-pervading. They are devoted to the nature of all the Victorious Ones, the wise are also free from desire in the nature of things, they are also deeply devoted to the uncompounded in the Sangha. Therefore, the Victorious Ones say that they are all-pervading. They know well the conduct of those devoted to desire, and likewise those devoted to hatred and ignorance, they are also skilled in changing conduct. Therefore, they are taught by the Victorious Ones to be all-pervading. They do not dwell exceedingly in the desire realm, nor do they change to dwell in the form realm, they do not dwell in the formless realm. Therefore, they are said by the Victorious Ones to be all-pervading. Always with characteristics and aspirations accumulated by wishes, and all things, they are devoted to emptiness, they do not cause the outflows to be exhausted in between. Therefore, they are taught by the Victorious Ones to be all-pervading. They are
