Eating food turns into an unclean, foul odor; striking them with a stick makes them clean. The mind also wanders, and memory deteriorates; one begs and becomes insane. Even if one obtains this seat of Dharma and merit, if one is careless, one will fall into the lower realms. For countless billions of years, having experienced many sufferings of the lower realms, one will obtain a human existence with leisure. Having committed sins, one will again fall into the lower realms. If one falls into a great ocean like an iron cage, there is no place to stay. Even after hundreds of millions of years, one cannot be lifted out of the great ocean again. Similarly, if a child falls into the lower realms, for hundreds of millions of eons, their rebirth as a human is doubtful; how can they attain higher realms and enlightenment? If the mind is pure, always diligent, well-disciplined, without deceit, and with an equal mind, one will attain enlightenment; for them, omniscience is not difficult. Know that these sixteen great kingly dharmas are the characteristics of a jealous person. What are the sixteen? Being miserly like a crow, speaking nonsense, being ill-disciplined, not being happy with others' praise, not believing in others' qualities, having many thoughts, much sorrow, much unhappiness, being envious, having deteriorated color and form, being oppressed by pride, disliking monks, having a contemptuous attitude towards those who come suddenly, seeking faults to argue with, being stingy with dwellings, not going to listen to the Dharma but eavesdropping, the mind being distracted, sending words to others, disliking the Dharma, saying, "I don't know what he is saying. This person is foolish; he teaches worldly Dharma." Those who disrespect the Dharma and Vinaya understood by the noble ones, those foolish people do not understand. Saying, "Only after I attain enlightenment will I respectfully abide in the Dharma under the Bodhi tree," even when teaching the Dharma to monks, standing at the outer gate,

I should listen, even if unwilling to sit on the seat, I should also provide for the monks, and when the words of the eight-limbed Bodhi branches are spoken, I should listen. If I hear those, I think that illness will arise from that. Therefore, those foolish people, desiring what is not Dharma, think to seek complete Bodhi, like wanting to see after gouging out both eyes, or wanting to be with many beggars after losing all wealth, or wanting to walk on the road after cutting off the legs. Great King, the Bodhi desired by those foolish people is like that. Great King, if a person possesses twenty-five qualities, then it should be known that this person has fallen away from Bodhi. What are the twenty-five? They are: being stingy with dwellings, being stingy with families, being stingy with praise, being jealous, not having faith, not knowing shame, being shameless, having evil thoughts, having deceitful thoughts, possessing the mind to harm others, having coarse behavior, being hypocritical, holding grudges, being prone to hoarding, being afraid of the words spoken by the Tathagata and distorting the meaning and adding or subtracting, thereby abandoning the Dharma, being extremely arrogant, being unwilling to ask others, having no remorse even after deceiving the Dharma, being uncompassionate and having many enemies, upon entering the Sangha, immediately upon seeing others, revealing the faults of others in order to prevent the joy of others, being distrustful of secret places and harboring discontent, whether the monks have been seen before or not, thinking: no one should be allowed to like these people, speaking unpraiseworthy words in order to harm others, abandoning others in order to speak unpraiseworthy words about others, with the intention of gaining profit, thinking: it would be bad if my complete offerings were to decline, therefore, observing separately and guarding the precepts. Great King, such people will either severely fall away from the teachings or return to the state of home. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: Like a crow, disheveled and unrestrained, speaking garrulously.
