O. Having stayed in one place, King Brahma, with offerings, requested the Blessed One as follows: "Blessed One, the Bodhisattva Seeing Meaningful, has come from my land a very long time ago." The Blessed One said: "Great King, where there are those who are jealous, not diligent, fond of talking, often making jokes, far from proper conduct, and not diligent, the Tathagata and the Shravakas of the Tathagata will not dwell there. Great King, it should be known that a person is not diligent for ten reasons. What are these ten? Namely: being very sleepy, showing arrogance as if one were wise, praising oneself, belittling others, liking jokes, being fond of talking, liking gatherings, being particularly attached to gain, being particularly attached to respect, and being hypocritical. Great King, if one possesses these ten reasons, it should be known that that person is not diligent." Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: Those with good lineage are always incompatible, Like the great ocean and a corpse, Like a living being meeting a bird. That person is very far from the wise. The faithless one seeks mistakes, Likes jokes, speech, behavior, and gatherings, One who does not respect the teachings of the Buddhas, Having died from here, quickly goes to bad destinies. The one without qualities has no memory, no wisdom, Does not transcend sorrow, is not liberated, has no discipline, That is just like a blind person walking on a path, Extremely far from the path of the noble ones. The person without qualities is talkative, Likes to laugh, and is always distracted, That is not suitable as water for a pond in the teachings, That eats the food of the village, a begging bowl made of iron. When the giver gives with faith, I allow it for the qualified and the liberated. Even if the unqualified one eats a single bite, It is like having to repay Mount Sumeru. In the teachings, the food of the country is difficult to digest, All those who are qualified are also afraid of this. If the unqualified one eats like a crow, Then they will be reborn as elephants, horses, cows, and donkeys. Having eaten that food, they transform into a despised form, They become thin, weak, and despised.
