Towards those, one does not grasp at signs, one does not grasp at indications. Also towards various kinds of ornaments and clothes, one does not grasp at signs and one does not grasp at indications. Also towards various kinds of forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects, one does not grasp at signs and one does not grasp at indications. Also towards men, women, boys, and girls, one does not grasp at signs and one does not grasp at indications. He, alone in a solitary place, diligently strives to settle properly within and to stabilize the mind. Whether focusing on the unattractive, or focusing on love, or focusing on compassion, or focusing on anything that causes aversion, he focuses in such a way that the body does not become filled. Breathing in and breathing out does not cease. The currents also do not cease, the wind does not become disturbed. The mind does not wrongly become distracted. Whether he walks, sleeps, stands, or sits, he sits with that very object. He directs his mind towards that very object. Brahma, at whatever time the bodhisattva's mind becomes stable on the object, at that time he places mind equally on mind, and mind does not take mind as an object. He who places equally is also not an object. That for which he places equally is also not an object. He thinks thus: Alas, these childish ordinary beings are manifestly attached to the laws of accumulation and the laws of depletion. Thinking thus, this is called the bodhisattva's higher seeing. Seeing thus, the afflictions do not arise and do not enter, this is called the bodhisattva's calm abiding. Brahma, furthermore, the bodhisattva alone dwells in a solitary place, having properly settled within, and properly settles with definitive words the names and letters as he has heard them, and closely understands those letters. When he closely understands them in that way, he sees the letters as accumulation and depletion. When he sees the letters as accumulation and depletion, he also sees the names as accumulation and depletion. He also sees that to which the name is applied as accumulation and depletion. Whatever form appears to him, he also sees that as accumulation and depletion. Because he sees accumulation and depletion, he truly

it will be fully known as it is. By fully knowing it as it is, conditioned things appear to him like a dream. Therefore, the Bodhisattva, having examined each one separately, abides by keeping the mind of great compassion close by looking at sentient beings. In order to subdue the mind of immoral wisdom, he meditates on wisdom. How does he meditate? He holds without error those Sutras that are taught in the manner of conventional truth or in the manner of ultimate truth with clear and complete expressions. Also, starting from teaching the Dharma without error, he contemplates with a mind without error. He also strives in the yoga of meditation. He does not fixate on sentient beings with the power of wisdom and the distinction of wisdom. He does not fixate on life. He does not fixate on nourishment. He does not fixate on a person. He does not fixate on an individual. He does not fixate on what is born from power. He does not fixate on an agent. He also does not fall into viewing everything as utter annihilation. He is also well-trained in imputed terms. He discerns the earth element that is grasped and the earth element that is not grasped in one way with accurate wisdom. He also discerns the water element that is grasped, the fire element, the wind element, and what is not grasped in one way with accurate wisdom, and he sees both of them as deceptive and hollow, as being without substance and without essence, and as being empty. As he sees it that way, just as there is no manifest attachment to the external elements, so it is with the internal ones as well. He also discerns the eye consciousness and forms in one way with accurate wisdom. He also discerns the ear consciousness and sounds, the nose consciousness and smells, the tongue consciousness and tastes, the body consciousness and tactile objects in one way with accurate wisdom. He also fully knows the earth element as being solid, and he also fully knows it as being liquid, hot, and empty. He also fully knows the water element as being liquid, and he also fully knows it as being solid, hot, and empty. He also fully knows the fire element as being hot, and he also fully knows it as being solid.
