Even a blade of grass of the inner path is not taken. How does one abandon non-celibacy? Brahma, here, the Bodhisattva dwells, well-guarded at the gates of the senses. Well-tamed. He wanders in suitable places. He possesses mindfulness with extreme protection. He constantly possesses mindfulness with protection. He protects his mind with mindfulness. Body and speech are extremely well-tamed. Wandering in suitable places, he possesses mindfulness and also generates this thought: It is easier for someone to take extremely fine, burnt sand with both hands and pour it into their eyes. However, looking at a beautiful object with a mind of desire is not like that. Why is that? If I look at a beautiful object, I will be ruined, destroyed, and become incapable for a long time. Thus, observing the body in the body, mindfulness is well-established in food, drink, dwelling, bedding, and cushions. When using them, one does not taste them and has no mind of desire. If, when using them, one sees that happiness arises, then one should examine it closely in this way: This appearing happiness is suffering from the opposite side. In this triple world, there is no compounded thing that is happiness. Why is that? Because compounded things are impermanent. Wise people should examine how the perception of happiness arises in impermanent things. Brahma, if a Bodhisattva, when using something, only happiness arises from suffering, and that suffering also oppresses and disturbs him greatly, then he should settle his mind on it in this way: This body must be diligently and completely accomplished, and must be achieved with effort. This cannot be held by creating suffering, but should be held by creating happiness. I will accomplish all virtuous dharmas with this stable and living body. For example, a merchant who desires profit repairs empty warehouses and good fields, not to decorate his warehouses and good fields, nor to make them comfortable, otherwise, if he loads goods on them, then

It should be so. Similarly, when a Bodhisattva eats food, he does not eat for the sake of adorning his body, nor for the sake of making his body comfortable, but rather to increase as much as possible the virtuous qualities related to the body. Brahma, if a Bodhisattva cannot understand the mind through the antidotes taught by the Tathagata, then he should think like this: This so-called mind is difficult to bring to completion, it holds onto disharmony, it is manifestly inclined towards samsara, it is not inclined towards virtue, it is manifestly inclined towards objects, it is not inclined towards solitude, it is manifestly inclined towards pleasure, it is not inclined towards suffering, it is manifestly inclined towards the joy of speaking, it is not inclined towards seeing things as they are, it is manifestly inclined towards impurity, it is not inclined towards purity, it is difficult to tame, it is difficult to grasp, it is without a place, it is without support, it is false, it is deceptive, it is momentary, it arises from the assembly of causes and conditions. Then, which wise person would allow himself to be controlled and followed by a mind of such a nature? He should think like this. Therefore, he diligently strives to tame the mind by abiding in mindfulness of the mind. To tame the mind of stinginess, he gives alms, even if it is only a mouthful of food, or a mustard seed, or a handful of peas, or a sesame seed, he gives it to all beings, not just to those he likes or those he is familiar with. To tame the mind of breaking precepts, he keeps the precepts, making sure that body, speech, and mind are without fault, not acting as a matchmaker, not doing impure things. Such precepts do not praise oneself, nor do they slander others. To tame the mind of anger, he cultivates patience. When he enters a village or town, he does not mind even if he is insulted. He does not mind even if he is beaten, struck, threatened, destroyed, or cursed. 'Alas, this Shramana is a bad ascetic!' 'Alas, this Shramana is an ugly, bad ascetic!' Even if the world judges him like this, he does not mind. Even if he is falsely slandered, he endures and

also accepts. Relying on considering actions as one's own responsibility. That patience does not praise oneself, nor does it slander others. In order to subdue the mind of laziness, to obtain the Dharma aspects of Bodhi that have not yet been obtained, to make the obtained grow, to make the growth fully mature, to make the fully mature correctly grasped, and to diligently strive for the distinction of the correctly grasped. He is not tired of the benefits of sentient beings and the deeds of sentient beings, does not lose heart, and does not generate a mind of weariness. Whether it is bestowing benefits on the lowly, or bestowing benefits on the king, even if he goes a very long way, he does not distinguish and does not interrupt. If a Bodhisattva is filled with all the bad things of suffering and impoverished sentient beings, or if he is given the best abundant good things by anyone who is rich and wealthy, the Bodhisattva will treat them with compassion, respectfully praise them, correctly commend them, let them correctly accept them, and accept that bad thing. What is the reason for that? Because, such a painful giving is a difficult giving to give. In order to subdue the distracted mind, he meditates on meditation. How does one meditate? Brahma, the Bodhisattva is first of all well-restrained in body, dwells in a solitary place, completely abandons the hustle and bustle of the body, also abandons attachment to the body, also knows the heaviness or lightness of the body, is in harmony with the body, nourishes the body, and also fully understands the strength of the body. Language is also well-restrained, speaking little, expressing little, speaking meaningfully, speaking reasonably, completely abandoning the liking for jokes. The mind is also well-restrained, completely abandoning all unwholesome discriminations. He, in that way, with the three places completely pure, strives to make the blue, yellow, red, and white images not appear.
