Whatever conduct is the conduct of supreme enlightenment, that is the conduct of striving diligently. The conduct of the chief, the conduct that is especially excellent, and the conduct of subduing all the world, whatever conduct is the conduct of supreme enlightenment, those are not conducted in small things. Conduct in reasoning and conduct in means, and conduct in turning away from the bliss of meditative concentration, whatever conduct is the conduct of supreme enlightenment, those who do not know do not conduct it. Conduct in view and conduct in observation, and conduct in not clinging to name and form, whatever conduct is the conduct of supreme enlightenment, those are conducted without fear. Conduct in everything and conduct in all ways, and conduct in fully maturing the faculties, whatever conduct is the conduct of supreme enlightenment, those are like the limit of wisdom's sky. When this verse teaching the conduct of a Bodhisattva was manifestly accomplished, arising from the sound of the lute, five thousand Bodhisattvas attained the tolerance of the Dharma of non-arising. The retinue of King Ajatashatru, and the Brahmins, householders, non-humans, Gandharvas, and great belly-goers of Rajagriha, eight thousand beings of that retinue generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and spoke these words: "Bhagavan, we also will train in this conduct of a Bodhisattva, we will strive diligently. May you grant that immeasurable beings also may truly hold to this conduct of a Bodhisattva." Then the Bhagavan granted the non-human king Tree-goer to depart. Then, with the Bhagavan's permission, the non-human king Tree-goer, together with his son, together with his army, together with his attendants, together with his own people, together with his retinue, bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, circumambulated the Bhagavan three times, asked for forgiveness, played musical instruments, rained down a shower of flowers, emitted a net of light, caused the great earth to shake in six ways, and then departed from the presence of the Bhagavan. In that very instant, in that very moment, in that very short time, he went to his own home on Mount Gandhamadana. Then, the gods to the Bhagavan

Then, Bampo Indra said this: "Oh Blessed One, the king of the Asuras, Tree, has subdued me with offerings to the Tathagata and offerings to the Dharma." The Blessed One said: "Kauśika, it is not only you that the king of the Asuras, Tree, has subdued. Kauśika, except for Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas who have attained the bhumi, all the Indras, Brahmas, world protectors, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas in the three thousand great thousand world realms are subdued by the king of the Asuras, Tree. Why is that? Kauśika, as soon as a Bodhisattva generates the mind of enlightenment, he subdues all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, as well as Indra, Brahma, and all the world protectors. Kauśika, therefore, a Bodhisattva is not subdued by the world with its gods. Whoever thinks to subdue a Bodhisattva, that is wanting to subdue the Tathagata. Why is that? Because the Tathagata arises from the Bodhisattva. The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas arise from the Tathagata." Then, having heard this teaching from Indra, the lord of the gods, he joined his palms, shed tears, and said this: "Alas! I have fallen away from such undefiled and unobstructed knowledge of the Buddha." Then, the son of Indra, the lord of the gods, a god named Light Protector, having gathered in that assembly and sitting there, said this to Indra, the lord of the gods: "Also, like this, for those dharmas that are not completely solitary and not suitable for practice, not generating the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is not obtaining compassion for all sentient beings, and not relying on a spiritual friend who has faith in the vast, one will regret it later. Father, you have entered the faultless path, but you cause the lineage to be cut off and the seed to wither. What is to be done now for one who has not become a vessel for the Great Vehicle?" When this teaching was spoken, from the sons of the gods of the Thirty-Three Realms, a thousand sons of the gods...
