And the Bodhisattvas also sat on the seats that had been arranged for them. Then, the Dragon King Ocean, seeing that the Blessed One, the Sangha of monks, and the Bodhisattvas were seated, together with his son, wife, relatives, and retinue, with his own hands, satisfied them with food of a hundred flavors, with many merits, and offered them whatever they desired. After satisfying them and offering them whatever they desired, he offered food, and seeing that the bowls had been removed and their hands had been wiped, for the sake of listening to the Dharma, the Dragon King Ocean, together with gods, dragons, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, as well as Indra, Brahma, the protectors of the world, and those great Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas gathered from the ten directions, all sat before the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, realizing that the retinue complete with all had gathered and were seated, emitted rays of light from his body called "Listening to the Dharma of Bliss, Joy, and Supreme Joy." Those rays of light caused all the beings, high, medium, and low, dwelling in the vast ocean to see the Blessed One seated before them, and having generated bliss, joy, and supreme joy, with longing and reverence, they joined their palms, prostrated to the Blessed One, and sat down. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the Dragon King Ocean: "Lord of the Dragons, this world is driven by various actions, and with various objects of mind, various actions are manifested and performed, and thus its realm of activity becomes diverse. Lord of the Dragons, look at how many kinds of diverse forms exist in this vast ocean, and how many ordinary things appear. Lord of the Dragons, all of these are made diverse by their own minds, and by the various actions of body, speech, and mind, which are the roots of good and non-good. The mind is formless and invisible. Lord of the Dragons, thus all dharmas abide closely by being falsely fabricated."

Its characteristic is: without a lord, without self, without grasping. These are all the various things accomplished just as karma is accumulated, and there is no agent here. Thus, these dharmas are inconceivable, and are the nature of illusion. O Dragon King, the wise, having understood that all dharmas are thus accomplished, and knowing that they are the nature of abiding, should only accumulate virtue. Those who accumulate virtue, accumulate the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that can be accumulated, and if they understand that the nature of abiding is thus accomplished, then those will become beautiful, well-formed, and pleasing appearances. O Dragon King, the body of the Thus-Gone One, how it is adorned with hundreds of thousands of millions of merits, how it is accomplished, and with what it subdues and suppresses the world including the gods, and with what it makes even the Brahma who rules over ten million billions pale in comparison, and look, even looking at the body of the Thus-Gone One makes the eyes dizzy. And look at the ornaments of the bodies and the signs of the forms of these Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas. All of these are adorned and accomplished by accumulating virtue. O Dragon King, your arrangement is also born from merit. The arrangements of Indra, Brahma, the world protectors, the gods, the nagas, the yakshas, the gandharvas, the asuras, the garudas, the kinnaras, and the mahoragas, all of these are also born from merit. O Dragon King, in this great ocean, those with various bodies, ugly appearances, and bad shapes, and those with large and coarse bodies, and those with small and thin bodies, all of these are also the various things done by their own minds and the roots of virtue and non-virtue of body, speech, and mind. O Dragon King, therefore, you should learn in this way: karma is my own, and I will rely on the ripening of karma. Karma is my own, and the ripening of karma

Relying on you! The mind will be engaged in the manifestation of virtuous deeds. It will not make the view empty. Nor will it dwell in nihilistic or eternalistic views. You should please the objects of generosity! Even if they are satisfied, do not discourage them. By manifesting the root of virtue arising from the cause of reverence, may you also become an object of reverence in the world, including the gods. Fifth chapter. Dragon King, Bodhisattvas, with one Dharma, completely cut off the rebirth of falling into evil destinies and evil paths. What is that one Dharma? It is like this: What have I become, how do the days and nights pass, like this, to separately contemplate the virtuous Dharmas. Because he separately contemplates the virtuous Dharmas extensively, he will not give an opportunity to the non-virtuous mind and the Dharmas arising from the mind. He abandons non-virtuous Dharmas and is in accordance with virtuous Dharmas, therefore, beings with good intentions, such as Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, will be able to find opportunities to associate with them. Dragon King, then, what are those virtuous Dharmas? The so-called virtuous Dharmas are the root support for the perfection of gods and human beings. It is the root support for the Bodhi of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. It is the root support for the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhi. Then, what is the root support? It is the ten paths of virtuous actions. What are the ten? They are: abandoning killing, abandoning taking what is not given, abandoning sexual misconduct, abandoning lying, abandoning divisive speech, abandoning harsh speech, abandoning idle talk, abandoning covetousness, abandoning harmful intent, abandoning wrong views. This is called the root support. Dragon King, for the person who abandons killing, he obtains ten extremely peaceful Dharmas. What are the ten? They are: he gives fearlessness to all beings. His mind dwells near the object of loving-kindness. His habit of hatred is completely cut off. He completely grasps the path of reducing diseases.
