Seeing the cracks is meaningful, and the passing into nirvana in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment is the Dharma-Vinaya well-spoken by the Buddha, the Bhagavan, which is truly rare! Bhagavan, whether a son of good family or a daughter of good family, who measures a person by a person, Bhagavan, this realm of the Buddha is not the realm of the Shravakas and all the Pratyekabuddhas, this special statement is indeed a special statement! The Bhagavan declared: That is so, that is so. Friends, just as you have said, this is the realm of the Buddha. However, friends, the mind arises dependently. I see these sentient beings lifting their feet due to attachment and putting them down due to detachment, holding their Dharma robes due to pervasive afflictions and wearing them due to being free from afflictions, cutting food with grasping and seeing without grasping. O friends, the behavior of sentient beings is diverse. There are those who understand through brief explanations, those who understand through detailed explanations, and those sentient beings who take words to heart. For them, the Tathagata speaks words that guide them into the Dharma, each according to their individual capacities. O friends, afflictions do not abide in objects, nor do they abide in directions. Afflictions are not accumulated, nor are they the substance of the aggregates. When improper attention arises, afflictions arise. When proper attention arises, purity arises. Therefore, if the arising of pervasive afflictions is properly examined, purity will arise. Understanding this, I have said this: if one knows a wrong view as a wrong view, just as it is, then that is its correct view. A wrong view never becomes a right view, it does not change, and there is no change. However, if one recognizes a wrong view as a wrong view and does not abide in it, does not fully abide in it, has no conduct, and has no conduct at all, then that is entering the path of right view, and this is called right view. O friends, afflictions are obscurations, purity is manifestation, afflictions are weak, Vipassana is powerful, and afflictions are sudden.

Self-nature is the root, utterly pure. Afflictions are universal conceptualization. Self-nature is without universal conceptualization. O friends, for example, this great earth relies on water. Water relies on wind. Wind relies on space. Space is without reliance. Likewise, the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element, these four elements, because of these, within all the space element, are powerful and solid, without etceteras. Without etceteras is unborn and unceasing, abiding in the manner of its own nature. Among these, those three elements have birth and destruction, do not abide, do not abide for long. These appear to change, but the space element has no change whatsoever. Likewise, aggregates, elements, and sources rely on karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions rely on inappropriate attention. Inappropriate attention relies on self-nature being completely pure. Therefore, the mind's self-nature is luminous, and it is called being afflicted by sudden afflictions. Among these, whatever is inappropriate attention, whatever is karma and afflictions, whatever are aggregates, elements, and sources, all of these, if the causes and conditions are complete, then they arise. If the causes and conditions are not complete, then they cease. And that self-nature has no cause, no condition, no gathering, no birth, no cessation. Among these, as the space element is, so is self-nature. As inappropriate attention is, so is wind. As karma and afflictions are, so is water. As aggregates, elements, and sources are, so is the earth element. Therefore, all phenomena are called roots utterly cut off, roots without essence, roots that do not abide, pure roots, roots without roots. O friends, that is called the door of self-nature being completely pure, the door of the appearance of phenomena, the door upon which bodhisattvas rely, not abiding in the door of all afflictions, and not being complacent in all the doors of purity. Because they have completely destroyed all those complacencies, it is in accordance with reason.
