What is called increase? He replied: Son of good family, it is not increase, but it increases by the cause of the Buddha's increase. For example, ignorance does not increase into the aggregates, but by the cause of ignorance, the aggregates also arise. Similarly, the Buddha's increase does not increase into anywhere, but by its cause it also becomes increase. For example, the sounds of horses, elephants, and people do not increase into the rocks, but by their cause, the sound of the rocks also appears. Similarly, the Buddha's increase does not increase into anywhere, but by its cause it also becomes increase. Ratna Sri said: Son of good family, dependent origination is profound. He replied: Thus, no dharma arises here. He asked: Son of good family, are not all dharmas dependently originated? He replied: If the causes had a maker, then the dharmas would also arise, but the causes have no maker, therefore all dharmas have no maker. He asked: Son of good family, did the Tathagata not appear? He replied: If Suchness appeared, then the Tathagata would also appear, but Suchness does not wish to appear. Why is that? Suchness is unborn and completely distinct. As Suchness is, so are all dharmas. Having understood it, it is called Tathagata. He asked: Son of good family, does the Tathagata appear? He replied: It is like this, this should be established. He asked: What should be established? He replied: Just as the realm of dharma abides. He asked: What is the abode of the realm of dharma like? He replied: It is not a place of birth, it is not a place of destruction, it is neither a place nor a non-place. Such a place is the place of the realm of dharma. As the place of the realm of dharma is, so is the place of all dharmas. What is the place of all dharmas? That is not a place. Wherever there is no place, there is no place of birth, nor is there a place of destruction, so it is neither a place nor a non-place. Such a place is the Thus

is the place of passing away. That place where the Thus-gone One is, is not considered a place of birth, nor is it a place of cessation. Thus, son of good family, saying "The Thus-gone One has appeared" is one extreme. Saying "The Thus-gone One has not appeared" is another extreme. The Thus-gone One should be sought from the middle way between birth and non-birth. Jewel Glory said: Son of good family, for that which has no birth and no place of destruction, the birth of the Buddha is profound, son of good family! Who would have faith in the appearance of the Buddha? Said: It is not to do more. Said: Son of good family, how is the teaching of "doing more" shown? Said: Son of good family, the word "doing more" is a word of superimposition. Whoever does not superimpose on any dharma, that one does not do more to any dharma, the word of not doing more is the word of equality. The word of equality is the word of non-difference. The word of non-difference is the non-word. The non-word is the word without letters. The word without letters is the word without discrimination. Whatever is the word without discrimination, there, between the mind and the intellect, there is no movement, that is the word of extreme non-movement. For example, in the sky there is no place for bird tracks, but it is spoken of as a place by sound, similarly, the birth of the Buddha is also unborn, but it is expressed by the sound of birth. Therefore, the Bodhisattva wisely shows the unborn and makes it fully manifest. Why is that? Because the nature of all dharmas is like this: this is the nature of non-birth. Whatever is the nature of non-birth, that is the nature of no-self. Whatever is the nature of no-self, that is the nature of no-thing. Whatever is the nature of no-thing, there is no place to dwell, all dharmas are the extreme of non-dwelling. Whatever is the extreme of non-dwelling, that is the extreme of all dharmas, therefore it is said that all dharmas abide in the true extreme. The true extreme is the extreme of complete non-cessation. It is the extreme that follows all extremes, all dharmas appear to have reached that extreme. Why is that?
