Wailing and suffering, as well as displeasure and disturbances, will occur, and in this way, this great mass of suffering will arise. The Bodhisattva, with wisdom, deeply investigates the causes and conditions of beings being completely afflicted by defilements, and this is called the principle of the arising of dependent origination. What is the principle of the cessation of dependent origination? For example, with the cessation of ignorance, actions cease. With the cessation of actions, consciousness ceases. With the cessation of consciousness, name and form cease. With the cessation of name and form, the six sense sources cease. With the cessation of the six sense sources, contact ceases. With the cessation of contact, feeling ceases. With the cessation of feeling, craving ceases. With the cessation of craving, grasping ceases. With the cessation of grasping, becoming ceases. With the cessation of becoming, birth ceases. With the cessation of birth, old age and death, and sorrow, as well as wailing, suffering, displeasure, and disturbances, all cease. In this way, this great mass of suffering will cease. Son of good family, this is called the principle of the cessation of dependent origination. The Bodhisattva, with wisdom, deeply investigates the causes and conditions of beings becoming completely pure, and this is called entering the profound Dharma, which is not the realm of all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. Why is that? Because knowing the complete defilement and purification of all beings is the realm of the Buddha, the Bhagavan. The Bodhisattva can also understand the connection between them through his own wisdom and the blessings of the Buddha. Furthermore, the so-called profound refers to the complete purification of the view of the aggregates, the self, and all dharmas. Why is that? Because the view of the aggregates cannot be found no matter how much one searches. Whatever cannot be found is profound. The self cannot be found even by all the Buddhas. Why is that? Because the self is completely pure from the beginning. Just as the self is completely pure, so too are all dharmas completely pure. Why is it called completely pure? Because for the Dharma

There is no birth, no arising, no cessation, no non-cessation, therefore it is called completely pure. There is no darkness, no light, no ālaya-vijñāna, no obscuration. In the profound ultimate truth, from no eye and no cessation of eye, up to no mind and no cessation of mind. This is not counted as an object. That which is not an object and can make an object is the ultimate truth, therefore it is called profound. In it there is no grasping of mind and intellect, it is difficult to understand, difficult to see, difficult to comprehend. In such a profound nature of Dharma, one does not rely on other wisdom, and also truly proclaims it to other sentient beings. Thus, Bodhisattvas truly enter the profound nature of Dharma, which is difficult for all Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas to fathom. The Ārya-Ākāśagarbha-paripṛcchā, Volume Three. Son of the family, how does a Bodhisattva become skilled in the wisdom of entering into dependent origination, and be free from all views of the two extremes? Son of the family, the Bodhisattva thinks thus: That which is relied upon is not anything; that which is relied upon is without substance; that which is relied upon is not completely established; that which is dependently originated is impermanent, suffering, selfless, peaceful. That which is relied upon is without self, without sentient beings, without life, without nourishment, without a person, without an individual, without power-born, without power-child. That which is relied upon has no true arising. That which is relied upon has nothing, no effort, emptiness, no sign, solitude, no going, unelaborated, non-elaborated. Therefore, arising is only the arising of Dharma, cessation is only the cessation of Dharma. In this there is no self, or sentient being, or life, or nourishment, or person, or individual, or power-born, or power-child. Those Dharmas that are dependently originated have no arising and no lord. Therefore, all Dharmas are like grass, trees, walls, roads, and illusions. Just as external objects have no creator when they arise, and no preventer when they cease, so too, when internal Dharmas arise, they also arise.
