Patience with sounds and speech is not the same as patience like the sky. Also, thinking 'Emptiness, I am also emptiness,' that is patience combined with attention, it is not the same as patience like the sky. The thought 'I will be patient,' that is the patience of discriminating consciousness, it is not the same as patience like the sky. For example, like there is a great Sala tree grove, someone comes and cuts down the Sala trees, the remnants of those cut down Sala trees do not think, 'These were cut down, I was not cut down.' They have no attachment to those that did not follow, nor is there anger, no thought, no discrimination, completely no discrimination, just like that, patience is the patience of a Bodhisattva, the same as the sky, the supreme of complete purity. Then, the Bhagavan at that time spoke these verses: Knowing exhaustion, patience is inexhaustible and pure, The mind is not attached to objects, extremely cultivated, Outer and inner are extremely pure, without abiding, Like the sky, equal mind, supreme patience too. This body is like an image, like trees and walls, The mind is also without form, invisible, like illusion. This Dharma has no place to view, like the sky, The body also does not change, in the mind there is no anger. Towards those who show respect, there is no joy nor hatred, Towards the high and low, there is no discrimination. Whatever vehicle is cultivated like the earth, Showing beings purity, here is spoken patience. Lifeless, without self, without sentient beings, All these dharmas, enduring in emptiness, Cause and condition, agent, do not contradict. That is the supreme patience, the very truth in this teaching. Hearing harsh words, not scolding, Without action, like the sound of clouds in the sky. Eliminating self-view, seeing the supreme of the mind's emptiness, In this teaching, it is said that beings are purely patient. Son of good family, how is it that a Bodhisattva's diligence is the same as the sky? Son of good family, if endowed with four qualities, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva's diligence is the same as the sky. What are the four? For example, even though engaging in all roots of virtue, also fully knowing that all dharmas are not completely accomplished, and manifestly engaging in offering and serving all Buddhas.
