Then, the Blessed One Sandalwood House Thus-Gone One, having entered into the samadhi called "Completely Turning Away by Viewing with Great Compassion," demonstrated complete nirvana. After he had completely passed into nirvana, his relics increased greatly. His sacred Dharma remained for eighty-four million eight thousand years. While his sacred Dharma remained, many beings attained realization. His sacred Dharma was not altered in any way. The Blessed One, by the power of samadhi and the blessing of miraculous abilities, remained invisible for eighty-four thousand kalpas. After those eighty-four thousand kalpas had passed, that being passed away from among the gods of the realm of neither perception nor non-perception and was born in the human world as the son of a merchant. When that boy reached the age of eight, the Blessed One Sandalwood House Thus-Gone One, having arisen from that samadhi after eighty-four thousand kalpas, appeared before that boy in the color and form of a Buddha, and no one other than that boy saw him. He earnestly caused that boy to generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment from the depths of his heart, and in order to make him irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, he began with this Great Vehicle and taught the Dharma to that boy. He also truly explained the faults of desire. The Blessed One, knowing that he possessed excellent intention, prophesied to the sons of the gods: 'This boy will awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in seventy-two hundred thousand countless kalpas, and he will appear in the world as the Thus-Gone One Jewel Peak.' No one other than that boy heard that prophecy. Twelve thousand capable sons of the gods, having heard that prophecy, all generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, saying: 'When will the Blessed One...'

When that Great Victory Tathagata attained enlightenment, he also made the aspiration: May we be born in that Buddha-field. The Blessed One, in order to cause all those beings to be born in the Buddha-field, prophesied, saying: The Tathagata Jewel Victory will prophesy for you unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Thereafter, the Blessed One Sandalwood Home Tathagata, after prophesying for those bodhisattvas, then entered into complete nirvana with a most excellent nirvana. The gods made offerings to his relics. Son of good family, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are endowed with such great compassion, in that there is no ground for all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Son of good family, just as the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, do not cut off the lineage of the Buddhas, so those who make offerings to the Buddhas, their roots of virtue also do not cease until they have not entered into nirvana, because it is not in vain. When this teaching of the Tathagata's great compassion was taught, in that assembly, beings equal to one-third of the sands of the Ganges River generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Bodhisattvas equal to half the sands of the Ganges River obtained the tolerance of accordance. Bodhisattvas equal to the sands of the Ganges River obtained the sixteen aspects of great compassion. They also obtained the Dharma-tolerance of empowerment with all the Buddha's teachings. Then, the assembly, complete with all, having heard this teaching, were satisfied, pleased, rejoiced, and were exceedingly delighted. Having generated joy and contentment, they said to the Blessed One, "Well said!" and made offerings to the Blessed One with the offerings of gods and humans. Fourth Chapter Then, the Blessed One again spoke to the Bodhisattva King of Mastery of Dharani: Son of good family, what is the work of the Tathagata? Son of good family, the work of the Tathagata is these thirty-two. What are the thirty-two?

Son of good family, the Tathagata, with unsurpassed wisdom, fully knows what is a place as it is, and fully knows what is not a place as it is. Son of good family, what is a place? What is not a place? Son of good family, this is not a place, nor is there an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, the ripening of acting wrongly with the body, acting wrongly with speech, and acting wrongly with the mind, becoming desirable, hateful, joyful, and pleasing, this is not a place. This is a place, and there is an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, the ripening of acting well with the body, acting well with speech, and acting well with the mind, becoming desirable, hateful, joyful, and pleasing, this is a place. Son of good family, it is not a place, nor is there an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, being stingy and accomplishing great enjoyment, being born as gods and humans through immoral discipline, becoming beautiful through harmful thoughts, obtaining realization through laziness, entering into certainty through mental distraction, and skillfully destroying the boundaries of habitual tendencies through wrong wisdom, this is not a place, nor is there an opportunity for it to be a place, this is not a place. This is a place, and there is an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, accomplishing great enjoyment through generosity, being born as gods and humans through discipline, becoming beautiful through patience, obtaining realization through diligence, entering into certainty through meditation, and skillfully destroying all the boundaries of habitual tendencies through wisdom, this is a place, and there is an opportunity for it to be a place. It is not a place, nor is there an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, the mind abiding in committing the five heinous crimes, this is not a place. The mind abiding in pure discipline, this is a place, and there is an opportunity for it to be a place. It is not a place, nor is there an opportunity for it to be a place, that is, obtaining patience in accordance with what has characteristics, that is not a place.
