Falling into the river and being controlled by sinful desires. Seeing myself as having completely transcended all rivers, I guide sentient beings to transcend all rivers. Sentient beings are unhappy and hold disharmonious views. Seeing myself as happy and holding harmonious views, I cause sentient beings to hold joyful and harmonious views correctly. Sentient beings are impoverished and completely attached to non-holy things. Seeing myself as not impoverished and abiding in the nectar of virtue, I guide sentient beings to be free from attachment and abide in the root of virtue. Sentient beings are poor and separated from the wealth of the noble ones. Seeing myself as not separated from the wealth of the noble ones and possessing the seven treasures, I guide sentient beings to strive to obtain the wealth of the noble ones. Sentient beings are constantly afflicted by diseases and bound by the venomous snakes of the four elements. Seeing myself as free from illness, happy, and unchanging, I cause sentient beings to correctly hold the abandonment of all diseases. Sentient beings are enveloped in the darkness of ignorance and separated from the light of wisdom. Seeing myself as having obtained the light of wisdom, I guide sentient beings to abide in the great light of wisdom. Sentient beings are attached to the three realms and follow the wheel of the cycle of existence in the five paths. Seeing myself as skilled in completely understanding the three realms, I cause sentient beings to correctly hold the skill of completely understanding the three realms. Sentient beings have entered the wrong path and are separated from the right path. Seeing myself as abiding in the right path, I guide sentient beings to abide in the right path. Sentient beings are attached to body and life and do not see faults. Seeing myself as not regarding body and life and seeing faults, I guide sentient beings to not regard body and life and see faults. Sentient beings are separated from the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Seeing myself as abiding in the unbroken lineage of the Three Jewels, I guide sentient beings to enter the unbroken lineage of the Three Jewels. Sentient beings have fallen away from the sacred Dharma. I

Seeing beings abiding in the true Dharma, one encourages beings to abide in the true Dharma. Seeing beings far from the precious teacher, far from the six recollections, and not abandoning the six recollections of myself, one encourages beings to cultivate the six recollections. Seeing beings obscured by the obscurations of karma and afflictions, and myself free from karma and afflictions, one encourages beings to be free from karma and afflictions. Seeing beings possessing all non-virtuous dharmas and abandoning all virtuous dharmas, and myself abandoning all non-virtuous dharmas and possessing all virtuous dharmas, one encourages beings to abandon all non-virtuous dharmas and to perfect all virtuous dharmas. Son of good family, these thirty-two activities of a Bodhisattva are the excellent offerings of Bodhisattvas. Abiding in these, Bodhisattvas perform activities that are well done. Son of good family, the activities of a Bodhisattva are immeasurable. Why is that? Son of good family, as many as there are gates of affliction for beings, so many gates of purification must a Bodhisattva diligently accomplish. Son of good family, if all the beings in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges were to abide in the vehicle of the Hearers or the vehicle of the Solitary Buddhas, the activity of all those beings would not even approach one part in a hundred of the activity of a Bodhisattva who has generated the first thought [of enlightenment], not even one part in a thousand, one part in a hundred thousand, one part in a million, one part in a million hundred thousand, nor would it approach by count, part, enumeration, example, or cause. Why is that? Hearers and Solitary Buddhas are close to abandoning the afflictions of their own continuum, but Bodhisattvas are close to abandoning the afflictions of all beings. Son of good family, thus, whatever is the activity of all beings, and whatever is the activity of all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas.

Therefore, it is said here that the work of the Bodhisattva is the most excellent. What is the reason for this? Because the works of ordinary children and common people are inverted, and the works of all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are narrow. But the work of the Bodhisattva is without inversion and creates immeasurable qualities. Therefore, the Bodhisattva surpasses all sentient beings, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas. Then, the Bodhisattva Dharani-ishvara-raja was satisfied, pleased, delighted, and rejoiced greatly. Having generated joy and comfort, he was exceedingly pleased with what the Bhagavan had said, and rejoiced in it. He then addressed the Bhagavan, saying: "Bhagavan, how wonderful are the Bodhisattva's adornments, the Bodhisattva's appearances, the Bodhisattva's great compassion, and the Bodhisattva's deeds, which have been well spoken by the Tathagata! Bhagavan, please let the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, speak again. Bhagavan, how does the great compassion of the Buddhas, the Bhagavans, enter into sentient beings? How great is the Tathagata's great compassion? What is its form? What is its sign? What is its characteristic? What is its place? How do the Buddhas, the Bhagavans, perform their deeds? How great are the Tathagata's deeds? What is their form? What is their sign? What is their characteristic? What is their place? Bhagavan, please, O All-Knowing One, All-Seeing One, clearly and correctly explain to us, as an eyewitness, the deeds that the Tathagata has accomplished." After he had spoken thus, the Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva Dharani-ishvara-raja: "Son of good family, therefore, listen very well and keep it in mind, and I will explain to you a little about the Tathagata's great compassion and the entry into the Tathagata's deeds. Son of good family, with regard to sentient beings, it should be said that the great compassion of the Buddhas, the Bhagavans, neither arises nor enters.
