Secluded from desires, with initial and sustained application, born of seclusion, filled with joy and bliss, he dwells, having perfected the first dhyana. He, having abandoned initial and sustained application, with inner purity, the mind becoming one, without initial or sustained application, born of concentration, filled with joy and bliss, he dwells, having perfected the second dhyana. He, having abandoned attachment to joy, dwells in equanimity, mindful and with full awareness, experiencing bliss with the body, as the noble ones say, 'Mindful, abiding in bliss, is equanimity.' He dwells, having perfected the third dhyana, without joy. He, having abandoned bliss, and having previously abandoned suffering, with the disappearance of joy and sorrow, neither bliss nor suffering, with purity of equanimity and mindfulness, he dwells, having perfected the fourth dhyana. He, having completely transcended all perceptions of form, with the disappearance of perceptions of resistance, not attending to perceptions of diversity, (thinking) space is infinite, he dwells, having perfected the sphere of infinite space. He, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite space, (thinking) consciousness is infinite, he dwells, having perfected the sphere of infinite consciousness. He, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite consciousness, (thinking) there is nothing at all, he dwells, having perfected the sphere of nothingness. He, having completely transcended the sphere of nothingness, he dwells, having perfected the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception. He, having completely transcended the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, enters into the absorption of the cessation of perception and feeling, and although he enters into absorption, he does not manifest the true limit with skillful means, but abides in truth by the power of previous blessings, and also causes beings to mature. These nine are the adornments of concentration. Son of good family, the adornments of concentration of the Bodhisattvas are these ten. What are the ten?
