Having settled before the Blessed One, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One. With hundreds and thousands of various divine offerings, they worshipped the Blessed One, and with reverence and respect, they joined their palms and supplicated the Blessed One. "Blessed One, we beseech you, please, Blessed One, expound the Dharma. Sugata, please expound the Dharma. May the Bodhisattva, through the blessings of utterly vanquishing the Maras, liberate us from the clutches of Mara, and henceforth, we shall not engage in actions that harm sentient beings with our eyes." "Blessed One, grant us solace." Having come before the Blessed One, "We shall listen to the Dharma." Then, the Blessed One, in order to console those Maras, spoke these words: "Friends, excellent, excellent! Because you have abandoned the deeds of Mara and also obtained the request to have the Tathagata expound the Dharma, that itself will become the cause for you to transcend all the paths of Mara. Why is that? Because you have generated the power to create roots of virtue before the Buddha. Friends, it is like this: for example, darkness accumulated for many years is dispelled by a single lamp. Friends, similarly, the darkness of afflictions accumulated for hundreds of kalpas is also dispelled by generating a single power of wisdom. Friends, it is like this: for example, a single circle of the moon, a single circle of the sun, and a single great precious jewel dispel all darkness. Friends, similarly, a single virtuous mind endowed with superior insight dispels all the darkness of ignorance. Friends, therefore, through this root of virtue, you will gradually eliminate all the darkness of ignorance, and thereby attain the great light of the Dharma." Then, the Bodhisattva named King of Dharma Freedom, having gathered in that assembly and abiding there, supplicated the Blessed One thus: "Blessed One, the Buddha-field blessed by the Tathagata, and the universal teachings, are inconceivable. Now, the Tathagata Bodhisattva
