For this son, the Bodhisattva abides in the realm of Nirvana, yet also appears to abide in the realm of Samsara through skillful means; abides in the realm of solitude, yet also appears to abide in the realm of bustle through skillful means; abides in the realm of meditation, yet also appears to abide among the retinue of consorts through skillful means; abides in the realm of non-manifestation, yet also appears to abide in the realm of all manifestations through skillful means; abides in the realm of non-birth, yet also appears to abide in the realm of birth, death, and transmigration through skillful means; has completely transcended the realm of the four Maras, yet also demonstrates subduing the Maras through skillful means; abides in the realm of the noble ones, yet also appears to abide in the realm of the non-noble ones through skillful means; has completely transcended the realm of the world, yet also appears to abide in the realm of the world through skillful means; has attained the realm of wisdom, yet also appears to abide at the edge of ignorance through skillful means; has directly realized the ultimate reality, yet also does not fall into the realm of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas through skillful means; has comprehended the Dharma of no characteristics, yet also through skillful means, with a body well adorned and embellished with excellent marks and signs, fully matures all sentient beings, appearing to abide in this realm; has truly entered the realm of the Buddhas, yet also appears to abide in all the realms of the Maras through skillful means. Son of the lineage, the skillful means of the Bodhisattvas should be observed in these twelve realms. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: The realm of skillful means, of the Bodhisattvas, is this; wherever they abide, they appear in all realms. Even having washed in the ocean of Nirvana, they appear in the waters of Samsara through skillful means. Because they have attained the thought of skillful means, they are not stained by the faults of either. Benefiting all beings with body, speech, and mind, having attained supreme solitude, like bees in a flower grove, they do not mingle with the bustle. In the retinue of consorts, where the sound of bracelets is loud, they appear charming. Sentient beings in hell

And harms such as these. Always thinking of the suffering of sentient beings, never wavering. Those ones are always peaceful and abide in equanimity, But they also appear in the realm of distraction. The basis of distraction is eliminated, Their skillful means is just this. Those ones have no non-conceptuality, no manifest action. Even though there is no fire of conceptuality, Through skillful means, there are elaboration and action, And those with conceptuality appear. All dharmas possess no death, transmigration, or birth, Although one sees that in reality, there is no birth, But the wise ones, through the wisdom of skillful means, Show birth and transmigration. Having completely transcended the realm of Mara, The steadfast ones abide in the realm of the Buddhas, But through the skillful means of the steadfast ones, They appear to wander in the realm of Mara. Although abiding in the generality of the assembly of the noble ones, Through skillful means, they appear as children. Although possessing the power of wisdom and miraculous abilities, They are seized by compassion for pure sentient beings. All dharmas are the supreme of emptiness, Realizing those dharmata, Even in the means of utter nirvana, They practice those. All dharmas are without inherent existence, Although realizing emptiness, peace, and signlessness, Through skillful means, with a body adorned with signs, They also practice the benefit of sentient beings. Wisdom is diminished and without affection, Without compassion, it is not the sustenance of wisdom. Wisdom is noble, and compassion is Purity; therefore, it is considered skillful means. The powerful skillful means Of the great Bodhisattvas is this: Those noble ones abide there, And show hundreds of kinds of miracles. Son of the lineage, in this way, one should also regard the skillful means of the Tathagatas. Why? Thus, in the Buddha-field that is manifestly superior with the twelve essences of qualities, although one has manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, one also shows the dregs of the eon, the dregs of the time, the dregs of sentient beings, the dregs of afflictions, the dregs of life, the differences of vehicles, the Buddha-field of all afflictions, the stubbornness of sentient beings, the differences in the teaching of the Dharma, and the existence of disputes of other heretics, and the Maras.

It also shows the works of demons, and all those faults do not exist, they should all be regarded as the means of the Tathagata. After saying this, Manjushri Kumara asked the Blessed One: "Blessed One, possessing what essence of qualities, where the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, attain perfect enlightenment and become Buddhas, what are the twelve essences of qualities that make the Buddha-field like that? Please explain them, Blessed One." The Blessed One said: "Manjushri, here, where the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, attain perfect enlightenment and become Buddhas, that Buddha-field possesses the essence of the kalpa because it is accomplished by the essence of qualities. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of time because it does not exceed the time of practicing the Dharma. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of sentient beings because it possesses the ability to know the Dharma. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of a field without afflictions because it is perfectly pure. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of sentient beings' intelligence because it is without untamed sentient beings. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of the vehicle because it is certain to emerge by one vehicle. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of the earth because it possesses the remainder of matter. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of the doctrine because it does not practice the teachings of all other non-Buddhists. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of qualities because it is without wavering. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of intention and higher intention because sentient beings have become a place of naturally white nature. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of the noble ones because it is inseparable from the place of giving. That Buddha-field possesses the essence of enlightenment because the Buddhas of the past have gone and followed. Manjushri, wherever the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, attain perfect enlightenment and become Buddhas, that Buddha-field possesses those essences of qualities."
