It is said that the swift cultivation of perfect patience is spoken by the powerful Lord of Great Compassion. To be constantly free from conceptual thoughts, one should rely on patience with a steadfast mind. To attain the knowledge of cessation, one should practice patience in order to pacify afflictions. Whoever desires to achieve excellent marks and features, and to go to the realm of Brahma, should rely on the power of patience with steadfast diligence. If one is fond of patience, everything will become prosperous. For things that the power of Mara cannot do, there is no power equal to patience. It is the source of all virtues, therefore one should cultivate the virtue of patience. Noble son, furthermore, Bodhisattvas should engage in diligence through twelve ascetic practices. What are these twelve? They are: to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of attaining complete and perfect enlightenment in all dharmas; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of going to the presence of all Tathagatas; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of making offerings and serving all Tathagatas; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of pleasing all Tathagatas; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of fully maturing all sentient beings; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of establishing all sentient beings in the Buddha's teachings; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of dispelling the ignorance of all sentient beings; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of bringing all sentient beings closer to the wisdom of the Buddha; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of completely purifying all Buddha-fields; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of never being discouraged by practicing for the benefit of sentient beings in the kalpa that reaches the end of the future; to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of going to all realms of the world in a single instant; and to engage in diligence through the ascetic practice of manifesting complete and perfect enlightenment in all Buddha-fields, becoming fully enlightened, and turning the wheel of Dharma. Noble son, Bodhisattvas should use these twelve ascetic practices

One should initiate diligence with great courage, and completely dedicate that diligence to the all-knowing wisdom. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: Those sons of the sage who desire supreme enlightenment, Those supreme ones, their diligence never wavers. They can travel through hundreds of Buddha fields, They practice for a long time, yet they are never weary. For the sake of fully maturing sentient beings, those with diligence, They can endure suffering for hundreds of thousands of eons. Those who wish to bestow immeasurable suffering, peace, and happiness upon beings, Those without laziness, desire that diligence does not diminish. I aspire to purify all fields, May I fully realize all these dharmas in every way. May I turn the wheel of Dharma in all hundred fields, I will tame hundreds of thousands of beings with the supreme vehicle. Having emanated in extremely vast fields, In a single instant of mind, I will manifest supreme enlightenment. The sons of the Victorious One who have crossed to the other shore of diligence, For the sake of sentient beings, they show various manifestations here. Son of the lineage, Bodhisattvas should meditate on samadhi in twelve ways. What are those twelve? They are: the aspect of pacifying afflictions for the sake of extreme non-distraction; the aspect of abiding the mind for the sake of not running after objects; the aspect of non-abiding for the sake of truly transcending the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm; the aspect of transcending the world for the sake of overcoming worldly samadhi; the aspect of distinction for the sake of not being attached to it; the aspect of wish-fulfilling for the sake of reversing samadhi; the aspect of self-nature for the sake of being free from the perception of things; the aspect of immeasurability for the sake of denouncing limited samadhi; the aspect of quiescence for the sake of extreme peace; the aspect of taming the mind for the sake of constant awareness; the aspect of definite thought for the sake of definitely restraining the senses; and the aspect of skillful means for the sake of not abandoning the thought of enlightenment. Bodhisattvas should meditate on samadhi in this way, and not as meditators dominated by pride, views, and desire.
