Enjoy the supreme joy of desires! When awake, strike the lute, the great drum, and the earthenware drums and handbells. Then, that boy, although he knew only that it was the Thus-Gone One, in order to properly generate the roots of virtue for other beings who perceived him as a god, spoke this verse: Those beings who are dominated by desire, those are foolish children. They do not know complete enlightenment and the Buddha's teachings. Because desires have no essence, I do not desire the enjoyment of desires. Desire is like the edge of a razor, who would trust in desire? Dogs, pigs, foxes, and cows, donkeys, mules, horses, etc., those rely on desire, they will not become Buddhas or Hearers. The blind, the lame, the deaf, and the foolish, the hunchbacked, the dwarfs, those rely on desire, they will not become Buddhas or Hearers. Bees, beetles, butterflies, and peacocks, cuckoos, etc., those rely on desire, I would be no different from them. Just as the blaze of fire fills this Jambudvipa, just as the blind fall into it, so it is with the Victorious One and desire. Because desire is impermanent and suffering, who would rely on desire? Those who follow desire, they do not understand its Dharma. I do not seek desire, the Buddha knows me. God, you ask me, I know you are the Buddha. I, the protector of the Buddha, heard these words from the King of Mount Meru: In the last watch of the night, the Buddha will pass away. Those who wish to see the sage who has exhausted all defilements, alas, the teacher has passed away, come here, go forth to see the Buddha. The protector, Shakya Lion, when he is about to pass into Nirvana, whoever sees and hears, it is as if they have done many good deeds. Therefore, in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, they have not done good deeds. Abiding in the limbs of enlightenment, the Sugata, the best of men, spoke thus. Those who rejoice in the teacher, gods and yakshas, people, to see the great perfect Buddha, come quickly! Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva scattered flowers of manifest knowledge everywhere.

Having obtained. Surrounded by hundreds of thousands of beings who prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and gathered before him, they came from the great city of Vaishali to where the Blessed One was. Second fascicle. As soon as the Blessed One lay down on the lion throne, resting on his right side, the four boys came, equal and without difference, not even a fraction of a hair's tip missing, possessing those qualities. From the four directions, they came to the Blessed One, with palms joined and prostrating, surrounded by many ordinary people and gathered before him, going to where the Blessed One was. When these four boys came before the Blessed One, hundreds of thousands of beings from towns, cities, villages, districts, and royal palaces rejoiced greatly, concentrated their minds, joined their palms, and all paid homage. As they arrived, a rain of flowers manifestly fell in a radius of one yojana in all four directions. As they arrived, the gods manifestly played hundreds of thousands of divine instruments and also produced the sounds of divine songs. At that time, four arranged lion thrones also appeared in the four directions of the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One. Then, the Venerable Ananda requested the Blessed One in verse: In the four directions of the All-Knowing One, these harmonious and beautiful lion thrones, what is the cause, Blessed One? After he requested thus, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, you see these four boys coming from the four directions, like the full moon of autumn, whose light surpasses the rays of the sun, overwhelming the four continents with light. They are beautiful in form, radiant in splendor, having obtained the light of wisdom, having obtained diligence, realizing profound wisdom, possessing glory, possessing intelligence, possessing conduct, possessing a sense of shame, possessing modesty, possessing realization, possessing cleverness, possessing mindfulness, possessing steadfastness, possessing wisdom.

Endowed, skilled in expounding the terms of virtuous qualities. Having generated roots of virtue in hundreds of thousands of Buddhas, in the presence of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, of other Buddha-fields, in the last moment of the dawn, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, I and those near, between the pair of Sala trees, attain the complete Nirvana that transcends boundaries, the inconceivable complete Nirvana, the complete Nirvana that is different from all the worlds, the complete Nirvana that subdues all the worlds, the complete Nirvana that benefits and brings happiness to all the worlds, the complete Nirvana that is difficult for all the worlds to discern, the complete Nirvana that completely destroys the bondage of all the worlds, the Tathagata will enter into complete Nirvana. After hearing of my complete Nirvana, I was born in this world realm, gathering from all four directions, listening to the Dharma teachings that praise my virtues, do you see these four? Ananda, the boy who comes from the east, endowed with color, endowed with majesty, endowed with form, shining with light, blazing with glory, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of beings, worshiped by hundreds of thousands of gods, experiencing the rain of heavenly flowers, this boy who comes before the Tathagata, Ananda, in the past, in the Buddha-field of the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, Lion's Roar自在, he became a Chakravartin king who ruled over a thousand worlds and was well worshiped by gods and humans.
