The Noble Samadhi of the Four Youths, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. The Noble Samadhi of the Four Youths, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. In Sanskrit: Arya Caturdāraka Samādhi Nāma Mahāyāna Sūtra. In Tibetan: The Noble Samadhi of the Four Youths, called the Great Vehicle Sutra. Volume One. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. Once, the Blessed One, at the time of his complete passing into Nirvana, was dwelling near the giants in the city of Kushinagar, in the grove of twin Sala trees, between the twin Sala trees. Then, the venerable Ananda went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he stood before the Blessed One with his palms joined, gazing at the Blessed One without blinking his eyes. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Ananda, saying: Son of Gautama, why do you gaze at the Tathagata without blinking your eyes? Then, the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, last night I dreamed of an ominous sign of the Tathagata's complete passing into Nirvana, a great and terrible dream that caused my hair to stand on end. Blessed One, after dreaming that dream, I wondered if the Blessed One would soon pass into Nirvana, and for that reason I am suffering, uneasy, and tormented by the arrow of sorrow. The Blessed One said: Son of Gautama, what kind of terrible omen of the Tathagata's complete passing into Nirvana did you dream in your dream? Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Ananda in verse, saying: In this grove of Sala trees, As a sign of the Protector of the World, What dream did you dream? Please tell me what you were asked. Then, the venerable Ananda spoke to the Blessed One in verse, saying: Last night in my dream, I dreamed of something terrible and frightening, That made my hair stand on end, O Best of Men, please listen. The trees in this world, Always flowers and fruits, Various

Endowed with the supreme Na (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), joy arises in the mind. This supreme tree in the world, with its cool shade, makes all sentient beings exceedingly happy, and also removes sickness and sorrow. A tree of limitless qualities and perfections, towering high up to the peak of existence. Seeing it, the eyes are purified, hearing it, the ears become pure. From it comes the most gentle, meaningful, and exceedingly virtuous and Dharma-filled sound, which will surely bring happiness and well-being to all sentient beings. From it will arise rays of light as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and the realms equal to those will be shaded by the great tree. The beings of the ten directions of the world, infinite and countless, whoever is touched by the light, will also benefit all sentient beings. In the ten directions of the world, fragrance will arise from it, and whoever smells that fragrance will not go to the lower realms. They will not go to hell, nor to the place of animals, the wicked, hungry ghosts, or the ranks of the Asuras. They will go to the good realms. Bringing happiness to all sentient beings, such a great tree, broken in the sleeping place of a giant, falls in the midst of the Sal tree grove. Having seen the supreme tree broken, then thousands of beings, countless and immeasurable, wail and lament. At that time, the sound is not heard, nor is the smell perceived, nor is the power of firmness obtained, and immediately I also fainted. Such a terrifying and hair-raising dream of last night, the one with eyes spoke to me. Then, the sons of the gods of the Pure Abodes, and Brahma, the lord of the Saha world, the leader of the sons of Mara, Indra, the lord of the gods, and the four great kings, each dwelling in their respective places, having seen the premonition of the Bhagavan's complete passing into Nirvana, each leading their retinue of eighty-eighty kotis of gods, surrounded and preceding, went to where the Bhagavan was, bowed their heads at the feet of the Bhagavan, and with harmonious voices, with weak cries, weeping and lamenting, they wailed.

While reciting, at that time the venerable Ananda spoke these verses: Alas, suffering is unbearable! Rejoicing in the Sal grove, today the Protector passes into nirvana. Ananda, do you not know? Who is the lamp for the helpless, who is the refuge and support, he will pass into nirvana without remainder, today he will pass into nirvana. Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke these verses to the venerable Ananda and all the retinue of gods endowed with everything: As seen is not other, today in the Sal grove, I will pass into nirvana, do not grieve, be steadfast. Endowed with color and inconceivable, full of light and fragrance, that great tree, has fallen in the Sal grove, what the tree shows is, today in the Sal grove, like water extinguishing fire, will pass into nirvana without remainder. Wisdom and miraculous powers have reached the ultimate, like being born from the lap of a close king, the best of men, I too will pass into nirvana, Ananda, do you not know? All conditioned things are impermanent, they are of the nature of arising and ceasing. Having fully understood these, the Teacher also spoke to the monks. Ananda, come here, you go, tell my disciples. The divine eye has reached the ultimate, the great elder Mahakashyapa, the great elder Katyayaniputra, the elder Gangpo Rabjor, the great belly one, the great Kashyapa, the owner of the bull and Joyful, Grains Meaningful King, the one who wears bad Dharma robes, Joyful and Rahula Good, my other disciples, the elders who are learners and non-learners, and other ordinary beings, I will pass into nirvana, quickly summon all of them. Learners and ordinary beings, will generate unseen suffering, after passing into nirvana, do not be pierced by the arrow of sorrow. Do not grieve, all conditioned things are impermanent, like a dream, just like the nature of Dharma, comfort them. After speaking thus, the venerable Ananda again asked the Blessed One in verses: Protector Buddha, from nirvana, enters
