The children all come to pay homage, Ananda, this great light is also the power of the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha. Ananda, these seven storied buildings made of Jambudvipa river gold are also emanations of the Blessed One's teachings on the seven branches of enlightenment. Ananda, in this Jambudvipa, there are also countless billions of beings who have planted roots of virtue together with this child. As soon as this child was born in this Jambudvipa, gods and humans obtained great joy and supreme delight. Among them, some have attained the exhaustion of outflows. Some have attained the stage of learning. Some who had not previously generated the mind, generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Some, as soon as they generated the mind, attained irreversible forbearance. Ananda, wherever this child sits in the lotus posture, this central light-emitting storied building is an emanation of the Tathagata. From it also arise the other six remaining jeweled storied buildings. Ananda, the Tathagata and the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has attained the All-Illuminating Flower of Superknowledge, illuminates this world with light, and behold, the power of benefiting countless sentient beings by correctly upholding the Dharma. Then, all those children gathered together, rejoicing greatly, surrounded by countless billions of beings, and in an instant, showers of various flowers were manifestly rained down, touching the feet of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Ananda: This Bodhisattva Mahasattva who has attained the All-Illuminating Flower of Superknowledge, through the miracle of the storied building made of Jambudvipa river gold, has tamed a hundred thousand kotis of beings into Arhatship. He has tamed a hundred thousand kotis of beings into the stage of learning. He has caused millions of beings to have faith in the Three Jewels and established them in the training.

Then he caused them to abide therein. Seven hundred kotis of gods were well exhorted towards enlightenment, and were definitely made irreversible from unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Seven kotis of gods were well exhorted to obtain forbearance of the unborn dharma. Countless, immeasurable sentient beings were completely ripened in order to see the assembly of Maitreya, and to see and meet Maitreya. Ananda, whatever work the Tathagata has to do for the sake of sentient beings, and whatever work the eldest son of the Tathagata, the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, have to do for the sake of sentient beings, that has been completely accomplished by me and these. Whatever I have to completely accomplish for the sake of sentient beings, that has also been completely accomplished by me. The third chapter is the last. Then the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, for the sake of compassion for sentient beings, please remain for a kalpa or more than a kalpa. Why is that? Because as long as the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha remains in the world, such noble beings will be seen, and as long as such virtuous sentient beings will walk in this Jambudvipa, and as long as we can find to see and serve such noble beings, and as long as such sutras will flourish in the world, and as long as such sutras with great Buddha dharma will be heard, and as long as we can see such various miracles of the Blessed One and these sons of the family, if the Tathagata passes into Nirvana, we will completely lose three places of refuge. What are the three? That is, seeing the Buddha, hearing the holy Dharma, and seeing and serving such noble beings who have faith in the vast Dharma, will be completely lost.

Then, the Venerable Ānanda, having heard those words, thought that he would soon be separated from his virtuous friend, and began to weep. He uttered lamentations, wiped away his tears, and fell to the ground like a felled tree. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Well-Thinking-of-Meaning spoke to the Venerable Ānanda in verse: This place where conditioned things constantly change cannot be found. Since all conditioned things are impermanent, Ānanda, do not grieve. By examining conditioned things, they arise and cease, and that thought cannot be found either. Thus, all dharmas are empty, Ānanda, why do you grieve? By examining, knowledge is emptiness, and Buddhas are empty by means of knowledge. If the Buddha is not perceived in that, why do you grieve, Ānanda? Things are like the sky, and like water in a mirage. Do not think about the unthinkable, and wise ones, do not discriminate. Just as a magician conjures up horses and elephants as mounts, and gardens with gatherings of beings, flowers, fruits, and joyful illusions. Likewise, all conditioned things are like illusions, without essence. The Buddhas and Śrāvakas are not different, they are just like that. Then, the Venerable Ānanda spoke again in verse to the son of the lineage, Well-Thinking-of-Meaning: As you have said, all dharmas are without characteristics. Today is the last time I will hear such excellent dharma. How should one enter Śrāvastī, and where does the perfectly enlightened Ānanda reside? From where will the one with eyes come? If asked, what should I say? The clean room of the best of men, dwelling in emptiness, how should one look upon it? If the empty throne is seen, how should one abide, O virtuous practitioner? Then, the son of the lineage, abiding in peace, spoke in verse to the Venerable Ānanda: Even after hundreds of millions of years, it is very difficult to find this meaning. The realm of dharma is very difficult to see, Ānanda, you should contemplate it individually. Just as the bark of a tree is peeled off layer by layer, and there is no heartwood in it. The nature of dharmas is the same. When it rains, in short,
