The Earth said: That which is called the mind without clinging and without arising is what is clung to in the mind, and it has no characteristics. For example, the nature of fire is like that; it dwells in wood, but where is the place where it dwells? If the nature is truly unchanging, names and agents are merely nominal, and the nature cannot be found. If the name and image are not spoken in order to explain its meaning, the name cannot be found, and the characteristics of the mind are also the same; no dwelling place is seen. If you recognize that the mind is like that, there is no mind that originally arises. Noble son, the characteristic of the nature of that mind is like the amalaka fruit; it is not born from itself, nor from another, nor from both, nor from the combination of causes and conditions, and there is no birth. Why? Because the conditions have changed and passed away. Even when the conditions are stirred, there is no birth. When the conditions have passed away, there is no cessation, and there are no characteristics of manifestation and non-manifestation. The outer shell is empty and peaceful, dwelling in a place of non-existence, so the place of dwelling is not seen. Because the essence is truly unchanging, the unchanging essence is neither one nor not one, neither different nor not different, neither permanent nor impermanent, neither entering nor arising, neither born nor dying, free from slander and foundation, cutting off the path of speech. The essence of the unborn mind is also the same as that; how can there be birth? If one speaks of birth, clinging, having clinging, and not having clinging, some people will have attainment in their minds. If one speaks of having a dwelling and abandoning it, then one will not attain the supreme Yungdrung perfect wisdom. That is distinguishing the essence of the mind in the darkness, and if one recognizes that the essence of the mind is like that, the essence is also the same, and there is no arising or action. The King of Minds, Bodhisattva, asked: Venerable one, mind,

The characteristic of intrinsic nature is empty and unmoving, there is no seeing, no hearing, no losing, and no abandoning. How can one take enlightenment? If there is enlightenment, then it is arguing and speaking. If there is no arguing and no speaking, then there is no primordial arising conduct. The Buddha said: Have you attained the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment? The King of Mind, Bodhisattva, asked: I have not attained the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Why? Because within the intrinsic nature of enlightenment, there is no attainment, no loss, no feeling, no knowing, and no discrimination. Within non-discrimination is the pure intrinsic nature. In intrinsic nature, there is no obstruction, no mixing, no speaking with words, no existence, no non-existence, no knowing, and no not knowing. If even the dharmas that can be practiced are not available, why is that? Because the dwelling place of all dharma practices is not seen. Since intrinsic nature does not truly change, there is neither attainment nor non-attainment from the beginning. How can one attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment? The Buddha said: That is so, that is so. As you say, all actions of the mind do not go beyond the absence of characteristics. Intrinsic nature is emptiness, therefore there is no birth. The various consciousnesses that can exist are also the same as that. How so? The eye and eye contact are all empty and unmoving, and consciousness is also empty and unmoving. There is also no characteristic of unmoving. There are also no three takings inside, and the three takings are all empty. Ear, nose, tongue, body, mind-intellect, consciousness of intellect, consciousness of self, alaya consciousness, are all the same as that, and all empty and peaceful mind and unborn mind do not arise. If the empty and peaceful mind and the unborn mind have arisen, then there is arising conduct, and it is not non-arising conduct. The three takings and three conducts inside,

The three disciplines are empty and peaceful in arising; if they do not arise, the mind does not arise, and the mind is always empty and peaceful. There is no meaning, and there is no action. The characteristics of the mind being empty and peaceful do not arise, and there is no attachment to the absence of touch. Entering without abiding, if one holds the meaning of the sutra of no characteristics, then there are no three things initially grasped. Everything is empty and the place is pure. Without attachment, one does not enter into samadhi, nor does one enter into meditation. There is no birth, and there is no action. The King of Minds, the Bodhisattva, asked: If one can subdue movement with meditation and overcome illusory disturbances, why not practice meditation? The Buddha said: The meditation of a Bodhisattva is movement. If there is no movement, it is not meditation, but the meditation of no birth. The nature of meditation is without birth. Meditation is separate from the characteristics of birth. The nature of meditation is without attachment. If one is separated from the attachment of the movement of meditation, then with wisdom, in the nature of meditation, one obtains no birth without movement and non-movement. The wisdom of no birth does not abide in birth, and the mind does not move. By practicing such wisdom, one obtains the Paramita of the wisdom of no birth. The King of Minds, the Bodhisattva, asked: Venerable one, the wisdom of no birth does not cling to all places, nor is it separated from all places. There is no place for the mind to dwell, nor is there dwelling, nor is there mind. There is no birth or dwelling in the mind. Such a mind that dwells has no birth or dwelling. Venerable one, the absence of birth and action in the mind is inconceivable. Within the inconceivable, speaking is inexhaustible. That is what the Buddha said. The King of Minds, the Bodhisattva, having heard such words, praised what had never been before, and spoke in verse: Great wisdom, well-gone venerable one, The Dharma of birth and action is widely proclaimed, What has never been heard is now heard, What has not been spoken is now spoken. Like pure nectar, Occasionally, the first one or two appear, Meeting is difficult and thinking is difficult, Hearing is also extremely rare.
