The Chapter on the Treasury of the Tathagata. Thereupon, the virtuous Brahmacharin rose from his seat and asked the Buddha: "Venerable, the law of birth is not concealed, and the law of death does not arise. Such an immovable law is the Bodhi of the Buddha. In the nature of Bodhi, there is no discrimination, and no wisdom of discrimination. The characteristic of the absence of the number of discriminations is covered only by discrimination. The characteristic of such a law is inconceivable. If there is no discrimination within the inconceivable, Venerable, the number of all dharmas is immeasurable, without limit. The characteristic of the limitless dharma is the very nature of the law of the one true reality. Abiding in the one and only nature, what is its meaning?" The Buddha said: "Virtuous one, the inconceivable is that I practice the path of skillful means for those who are deluded in explaining the dharmas. The characteristic of all dharmas is the wisdom of the law of the one true reality. How so? For example, it is like opening four great gates in one market, and all four great gates gather in one market, and many people enter as they please. The taste of all dharmas is also like that." The virtuous Brahmacharin asked: "If such is the law, if I abide in the taste of one dharma, will the taste of all dharmas gather?" The Buddha said: "It is so, it is so. How so? The taste of the one true law is like a great ocean, and all the many who flow into it are accommodated. Virtuous one, the taste of all dharmas is also like the many who flow into it. Although the names and numbers are different, none fail to become water. Abiding in the great ocean, all the many who flow into it gather; abiding in one taste, all tastes gather." The virtuous Brahmacharin asked: "The one taste of the dharma, how does it become the path of the three vehicles? Its wisdom should be the same." The Buddha said: "Virtuous one, for example, rivers, wells, lakes, and seas are different in size, different in depth, and different in name. When the water is in the well, it is called well water."
