Patience in non-existence, single certainty in the absence of a person, faith in impermanence, perceiving all births as sentient beings in hell, perceiving the aggregates as executioners, perceiving the elements as venomous snakes, perceiving the sense bases as empty villages, perceiving existence as definite departure, and perceiving the doors of liberation as familiar. Son of lineage, these ten dharmas enable the attainment of the samadhi that gathers all merits. Having spoken thus, the great and glorious one with stainless splendor addressed the Blessed One as follows: "Blessed One, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to perfectly gather the accumulation of merits should listen to this samadhi that gathers all merits. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes for merits and so forth should listen to this samadhi that gathers all merits. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain inconceivable merits should listen to this samadhi that gathers all merits and generate faith. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain inexhaustible merits should diligently apply himself to this samadhi. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain an ocean of merits should hold this samadhi, remember it, recite it, and explain it to others. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to fully grasp the marks of a hundred merits should diligently apply himself to the yoga of meditation on this samadhi." Then again, the great and glorious one with stainless splendor addressed the Blessed One as follows: "Blessed One, how does the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, through diligent effort, perfect these dharmas, namely, inexhaustible merits, an ocean of merits, inconceivable merits, merits and so forth, and the marks of a hundred merits?" Having spoken thus, the Blessed One spoke to the great and glorious one with stainless splendor as follows: "Son of lineage, these three

These are the reliance on merit, the accumulation of merit, the collection of merit, the increase of merit, the inexhaustibility of merit, the inconceivability of merit, and the ocean of merit. What are the three? They are the accumulation of giving, the accumulation of ethics, and the accumulation of learning. Son of the lineage, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva diligently engage in the accumulation of giving? Son of the lineage, here, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not accept any object for which the mind of giving does not arise, and the thought of giving does not occur. Any object that is completely grasped, for which the mind of giving does not arise, should not be completely grasped. Any servants who, when begged by beggars, give rise to the thought of complete possession, should not be taken. Any object, when begged by beggars, that causes a Bodhisattva to have the thought of not giving away the kingdom, should not be taken. Those enjoyments, those riches, those things, those jewels, should not be taken, and up to any such thing, should not be taken. Son of the lineage, furthermore, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should generate this thought: Even my body should be given to all sentient beings, completely given, what need is there to mention external objects? Furthermore, whatever sentient being, with whatever thing, can accomplish whatever thing, if there is, then one should give it to them without displeasure and without regret. To those who desire hands, give hands. To those who desire feet, give feet. To those who desire eyes, give eyes. To those who desire flesh, give flesh. To those who desire blood, give blood. To those who desire bones, give bones. To those who desire limbs and parts, give limbs and parts. To those who desire heads, one should also completely give heads. What need is there to mention external objects, such as wealth, grain, gold, silver, jewels, ornaments, horses, elephants, chariots, vehicles, villages, cities, towns, countries,

Furthermore, whatever sentient being accomplishes things with whatever means, if they possess that thing, then that thing should be given to that sentient being, and it should be done without displeasure, without regret, and without expecting fruition, but with complete generosity. Give without looking back. Otherwise, it is solely for the benefit of sentient beings, for the compassion of sentient beings, for the love of that sentient being, and for the sake of gathering those sentient beings. When I attain enlightenment, may these sentient beings realize all dharmas, one should generate such a thought. Son of good family, whoever Bodhisattva generates such a thought, those are called Bodhisattvas. Son of good family, furthermore, a Bodhisattva does not even consider body and life, because even for the sake of life, he does not manifestly engage in sinful actions. In order to fatten the body, he does not live by a disgusting livelihood. Even for the sake of life, he does not beg or scold others. For the sake of enjoyment, he does not manifestly engage in non-virtue. Even for the sake of servants and retinue, he does not stir up disputes and fights. Even for the sake of wives, sons, and daughters, he does not deceive others. He also does not generate greed for the enjoyments of others. He does not generate a miserly mind. He has few desires, and if he generates even one thought that is not in accordance with virtue, he does not generate it, let alone many. If he strives in that way, he will abandon great desire and attachment. If he abandons great desire and attachment, he will not seek what should be sought. If he does not seek what should be sought, he will strive for what is correct. If he strives for what is correct, he will attain the correct conduct. If he walks correctly, he will abide in the correct practice. If he enters correctly, he will please the correct spiritual friends. Having pleased the correct spiritual friends, he serves, associates, and reveres them. He with the spiritual friends
