and even a hundredth part of the accumulation of wisdom, knowledge, and merit that comes from having five hundred is unbearable, even to the point of continuing. Apply this to everything in the same way. This son of No Craving is the fourth to enter the samadhi that gathers all merit. When this teaching was taught, thirty-two thousand people generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. This three-thousandfold great thousandfold world realm also shook in six ways. The musical instruments of gods and humans also sounded. Clouds of flowers of gods and humans also descended, and those clouds of flowers covered this great earth up to the knees. Gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, Indra, Brahma, and the protectors of the world all said these words: "Bhagavan, those sons or daughters of good family who have generated, are generating, or will generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment have overcome us. Bhagavan, we are doing things for those beings. As we understand the meaning spoken by the Bhagavan, those beings who have not entered unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment have not arisen from the samadhi that gathers all merit. They are, not knowing satisfaction in completely seeking the dharma of listening, and properly reflecting individually on the dharma as it has been heard. They are: seeking perfect calm abiding, being skilled in insight, fully understanding causes, being skilled in dependent origination, practicing correctly, fully seeking the collection of paths, and being without laziness in meditating on the path. They are: the very adaptability of the body, the very adaptability of the mind, the individual discernment of feelings, the subsequent contemplation of dharmas, not generating unwholesome dharmas of sin that have not arisen, abandoning unwholesome dharmas of sin that have arisen, generating virtuous dharmas that have not arisen, and guarding and completely purifying virtuous dharmas that have arisen. Son of good family, these eight dharmas are the means to attain this samadhi that gathers all merits. Son of good family, there are also nine dharmas that are the means to attain this samadhi that gathers all merits. What are the nine? They are: individually discerning the nature of the past as inexhaustible, individually discerning the nature of the future as inexhaustible, individually discerning the nature of the present arising as inexhaustible, individually discerning illusory dharmas, comprehending the equality of the three times, possessing forbearance of dharma towards all dharmas as they are, not abandoning emptiness, being free from aspirations by meditating on the signless, and intentionally taking birth in existence.
