A Bodhisattva, not stained by the mud of all worldly phenomena, should be like a lotus. A Bodhisattva, liberating all sentient beings, should be like a boat. A Bodhisattva, not despising the superior, middling, and inferior, should be like a bridge. A Bodhisattva, with the thought of inexhaustible pure Dharma water, should be like a spring, a lake, a pond, and a small lake. You have spoken well about this skillful abiding in the conduct of Bodhisattvas. Noble son, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to attain this Samadhi that gathers all merits should abandon all non-merits and strive to fully embrace all merits. Then, the Bodhisattva Son of Non-Attachment asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, what are the characteristics of a Bodhisattva who has attained this Samadhi that gathers all merits? What are the constants? What are the signs? What are the virtues? What are the benefits? Then, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Son of Non-Attachment: Noble son, the Bodhisattva who has attained this Samadhi that gathers all merits, because he has turned away from the eight unfavorable conditions, is therefore free from the lower realms. Because everything is accomplished by mere thought, he has also completely cut off all poverty. Because he is well adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, he is also complete in faculties. Because of the nature of inexhaustibility, he has also obtained fearlessness. Because he is without forgetfulness, he has also obtained dharani. Because he turns the wheel of Dharma, he is also higher than all merits. Because he has obtained the power of Indra, Brahma, and the protectors of the world, he has also obtained the empowerment of the place of offering for all sentient beings. Because his supernormal knowledges have not declined, he has also obtained supernormal knowledges. He also has power in all places of birth. Because all the wealth of Dharma increases, he also has an inexhaustible treasury of skillful means. Because he is free from sinful views, he also sees universally with wisdom. He also has no desire for the level of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas. He is also the tamer of all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas.
