Total Retention) and scrolls containing the boundless gates of the Dharma will also be obtained. By the blessings of the Buddhas and the blessings of the gods, if they wish, they can even remain for a thousand years. Or they can remain for two million, three million, four million, or five million years, up to a kalpa, more than a kalpa, or as long as they wish. For the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who possess immaculate splendor and have faith in the Dharma, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, will help them eliminate aging, eliminate diseases, increase their memory, and increase their realization and wisdom. For the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who have faith in the Dharma, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, will eliminate their wrong views and increase their right views. For the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who possess immaculate splendor and have faith in the Dharma, no harm from others will occur. Possessing immaculate splendor, therefore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should diligently strive to master the teachings they have heard. The Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who diligently strives to master the teachings they have heard will obtain such excellent qualities, or even more excellent and superior qualities. These three immaculate splendors are: reliance on merit, accumulation of merit, source of merit, increase of merit, conducive cause of merit, inexhaustible merit, inconceivable merit, and the ocean of merit, abiding in it.

The limit or measure of the merit of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas cannot be understood. The measure and limit of the drops of the great ocean of immaculate glory can be understood, but the measure and limit of the accumulation of merit of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas' accumulation of generosity, discipline, and learning cannot be understood. In the realm of the immaculate glorious three thousand great thousand worlds, all the mountains, trees, forests, and grasses on the earth can be measured or known by weight, but the accumulation of merit of the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas' accumulation of generosity, discipline, and learning cannot be measured, I say. Then the Blessed One was asked by the great merchant Immaculate Glory: Blessed One, among these three accumulations, the accumulation of generosity, the accumulation of discipline, and the accumulation of learning, which accumulation is the most excellent and the most important? The Blessed One said: Immaculate Glory, among these three accumulations, the accumulation of generosity, the accumulation of discipline, and the accumulation of learning, only the accumulation of learning is the most excellent. It is the best. It is the most excellent. It is the richest. It is the most important. It is the most distinguished. It is the highest. It is the unsurpassed. It is the incomparable. It is the highest of the highest. Son of the lineage, for example, just as there is a mustard seed in front of Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, so should the accumulation of generosity and the accumulation of discipline be regarded. Just as Mount Sumeru, the king of mountains, is, so should the accumulation of learning be regarded. Son of the lineage, for example, just as the trace of a bird in the sky is, so should the accumulation of generosity and the accumulation of discipline be regarded. Just as the sky of the ten directions is infinite, so should the accumulation of learning be regarded. Son of the lineage, the accumulation of generosity does two things, what two? That is, eliminating poverty and great wealth.

can accomplish, that is, accomplish these two tasks. The aggregate of morality can also accomplish two tasks. What are the two? That is, eliminating bad destinies and accomplishing good destinies, that is, accomplishing these two tasks. The aggregate of wisdom can also accomplish two tasks. What are the two? That is, eliminating all views and accomplishing wisdom, that is, accomplishing these two tasks. Son of good family, the aggregate of generosity is with outflows, with acceptance, and ripens into aggregates. Son of good family, the aggregate of morality is with outflows, with acceptance, and ripens into aggregates. Son of good family, the aggregate of hearing is without outflows, without acceptance, and does not ripen into aggregates. Son of good family, therefore, bodhisattvas, great beings who strive, should strive in the aggregate of hearing. When these aggregates of generosity, morality, and hearing were taught, three thousand sentient beings who had planted roots of virtue in the past generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Five thousand sons of gods, in all dharmas, obtained the pure Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement. The great and good name, stainless light, also obtained the forbearance of Dharma that accords with it. Then, the great and good name, stainless light, said to the Bhagavan: World Honored One, with how many dharmas does a bodhisattva mahasattva possess, to quickly obtain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas? The World Honored One said: Son of good family, a bodhisattva mahasattva who possesses four dharmas will quickly obtain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. What are the four? That is, to regard the body as an image, to regard speech as an echo, to regard the mind as an illusion, and to regard all dharmas as the inexhaustible nature of Dharma. Son of good family, a bodhisattva mahasattva who possesses these four dharmas will quickly obtain the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Son of good family, furthermore, a bodhisattva mahasattva who possesses four dharmas will not arise
