Remember it. Any monk who possesses this samadhi should practice it without weariness. Recalling past lives, for a full thirty-six thousand years, I constantly relied on those who preached the Dharma, yet I never heard of this samadhi. In the past, there was a Buddha named "Truth." At that time, there was a young monk, learned and well-versed, just as the Sugata's teachings were declining, he mastered this samadhi. I was then a king of the Kshatriya caste, (thinking) a certain monk has mastered this samadhi, go to him and listen well. After hearing this samadhi in a dream, I quickly got up, with an eager heart, searching for the monk who had mastered this samadhi. After seeing that renunciate, (thinking) can I hear this Dharma from him a few times? For a full sixty-six thousand years, I respectfully honored that monk with joy. Because I was blessed by Mara, I could not hear it even once. Therefore, all monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen, after hearing the samadhi, should quickly uphold it, generate faith, and understand its meaning. Even if you live for a full kalpa, you should be close to and rely on the one who has mastered the samadhi. Having closely and respectfully served for a thousand kalpas, he then expounded this samadhi. To the monk who is skilled in practicing this stainless samadhi, who begs for alms in the city, give food, dwellings, bedding, and clothing, as many as hundreds of thousands of kotis. Dwellings, food, bedding, and clothing, even if they are many hundreds of thousands of kotis, should be abandoned. If one can obtain the donation of one's own flesh and blood, if used well, what need is there to mention food and drink? Constantly serving as a servant, attending and honoring, also seeking this peaceful samadhi. Even if the wise find it and practice it quickly, they cannot repay its kindness. Even if one searches for many hundreds of thousands of kalpas, this samadhi is extremely difficult to obtain. If one can hear the sound of this Dharma a hundred times, what need is there to mention recitation and teaching? Giving offerings by filling realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges with jewels is less meritorious than hearing a single verse of this Dharma.
