World Honored One, all those sentient beings are subdued in the vehicle of the Hearers, not even close to one hundredth part of the subduing of Bodhisattvas, not even close to the stage of cause. Where Bodhisattvas certainly appear, certainly arise, and will certainly arise, that samadhi of courageous advance is immeasurable. World Honored One, therefore, Bodhisattvas should certainly arise through all the paths of certain arising, so they should strive in this samadhi of courageous advance. Having prostrated with his head at the feet of the Bhagavan Tathagata Vairocana Adorned with Light Rays, King of Manifestations, he circumambulated the Bhagavan three times, and sat down on one side. He then addressed the Bhagavan, saying: "How long is the lifespan of the Bhagavan? How long until you completely pass into nirvana and pass away?" The Bhagavan replied: "Wise one, just as long as the lifespan of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni. Wise one, the lifespan is seven hundred countless kalpas. Just as long as my lifespan is, so too is the lifespan of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni." Then, the Bodhisattva Wise One was amazed, and again prostrated with his head at the feet of the Bhagavan Tathagata Vairocana Adorned with Light Rays, King of Manifestations, and circumambulated three times. In that very instant, moment, and fraction of time, he returned to the world of Saha, and addressed the Bhagavan, saying: "Bhagavan, the lifespan of the Bhagavan Tathagata Vairocana Adorned with Light Rays, King of Manifestations, is seven hundred countless kalpas. Just as long as my lifespan is, so too is the lifespan of the Bhagavan Shakyamuni," thus he spoke. Then, by the power of the Buddha, the venerable Ananda rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and bowed with palms joined towards the Bhagavan. He then addressed the Bhagavan, saying: "Bhagavan, according to what I understand of the meaning spoken by the Bhagavan, and according to what I think, the Bhagavan himself is the Tathagata Vairocana Adorned with Light Rays, King of Manifestations, of that pure world, and by that name he benefits sentient beings and teaches the Dharma for the sake of happiness.
