The extent of possessing virtuous conduct is not easy to measure. Likewise, in that Buddha-field, the extent of beings' inclination towards virtue is not easy to measure. Thus, that Tathagata, in the past, while practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, made these and countless other aspirations. All of these were perfected by relying on the Bodhisattva's Samadhi that follows thought. O Powerful One, therefore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should strive to attain the Samadhi that thoroughly follows the thoughts of all beings. Then, the powerful one, like a great Sal tree of the Brahmin caste, as soon as that Tathagata, the King of Uninterrupted Jewel Crests, proclaimed those aspirations, he immediately made all those aspirations as well. Then, the Bhagavan prophesied, 'His Buddha-field will possess inconceivable qualities.' Manjushri, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, should you consider that the one who became known as the powerful one, like a great Sal tree of the Brahmin caste, was someone else? Manjushri, you should not view it that way. Why is that? That Tathagata, Sarvarthasiddha, at that time, at that moment, was the one who became known as the powerful one, like a great Sal tree of the Brahmin caste, and that Tathagata, Sarvarthasiddha's Buddha-field possesses that many qualities. Therefore, Manjushri, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should train in those aspirations of how to aspire. If one trains in the aspirations of how to aspire, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, endowed with skillful means, fully matures countless beings. He holds that immeasurable lifespan, and also causes countless beings to hold an immeasurable lifespan. Manjushri, in the past, in a past time, countless aeons ago, immeasurable, inconceivable, incomparable, immeasurable, limitless, unspeakable, beyond even that, there arose an aeon called Auspicious Birth. In that aeon of Auspicious Birth, the Tathagata...

The departed, the worthy one, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the well-gone, the knower of the world, the unsurpassed guide of beings to be tamed, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, named Fragrance Supreme King, appeared in the world. Manjushri, in the Buddha-field of that Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, Fragrance Supreme King, there arose a Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, called Sandalwood Heart. That Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, Sandalwood Heart, went to where the Tathagata Fragrance Supreme King was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan Tathagata Fragrance Supreme King, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, that Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, Sandalwood Heart, said to the Tathagata Fragrance Supreme King: Bhagavan, how much does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva need to be endowed with skillful means to be called 'endowed with skillful means'? After he said this, the Bhagavan Tathagata Fragrance Supreme King said to that Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, Sandalwood Heart: Sandalwood Heart, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva enters into the thoughts of all sentient beings, and having entered into their thoughts, teaches the Dharma to each according to their needs, to that extent a Bodhisattva Mahasattva is endowed with skillful means. Endowed with that skillful means, he teaches the Dharma to sentient beings in accordance with their inclinations. Endowed with such skillful means, he does not abandon diligence even for countless eons in order to purify the Buddha-fields and to ripen sentient beings. When he practices the Perfection of Wisdom, which is fully grasped by skillful means, he never generates a mind that is separated from skillful means. He quickly purifies countless Buddha-fields. Then, that Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, Sandalwood Heart, the Bhagavan Tathagata

That Sugata, King Supreme of Fragrance, Having just taught skillful means and the Perfection of Wisdom, he thoroughly accomplished it as he had taught. Because he thoroughly accomplished it as he had taught, he became greatly proficient in understanding the thoughts of sentient beings. Possessing that skillful means, he did not abandon his effort even for countless eons in order to purify the Buddha-fields and ripen sentient beings. When he practiced the Perfection of Wisdom, which was completely grasped by skillful means, he never generated a mind separate from skillful means for countless eons. Having generated that mind, he completely purified countless inexpressible Buddha-fields in the realms of the ten directions. In each Buddha-field, he also completely ripened countless inexpressible sentient beings. In each Buddha-field, he also thoroughly established countless immeasurable sentient beings in the forbearance of the profound Dharma. Manjushri, if you were to think that the Brahmin lineage, like a great Sala tree, called the Heart of Sandalwood, who existed at that time, was someone else, Manjushri, you should not view it that way. Why is that? That Tathagata, Accomplisher of All Purposes, at that time was the Brahmin lineage, like a great Sala tree, called the Heart of Sandalwood. Manjushri, therefore, Bodhisattvas, great beings, should strive for the forbearance of definitely understanding the characteristics of the mind. Sixth Chapter. Manjushri, in the past, in a time long ago, beyond countless, immeasurable, inconceivable, incomparable, unmeasurable, inexpressible eons, there appeared in the world a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, Possessing Knowledge and Conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed Guide of Beings to be Tamed, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Source of Wisdom. In the Buddha-field of that Tathagata, Source of Wisdom, there appeared a Bodhisattva Mahasattva named Supreme Wisdom Teacher. Then, the Bodhi mind
