English

The Bhikshu, the perfectly complete Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed tamer of beings, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Bhagavan named Boundless Wisdom, appeared in the world. Manjushri, the Buddha-field of that Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, immeasurably pure and unspeakable, is like the Buddha-field of the present Bhagavan Tathagata All-Meaning-Accomplished. In the Buddha-field of that Bhagavan Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, only those who have entered the Great Vehicle are born there; other sentient beings are not born. That Tathagata teaches the Dharma based on the Great Vehicle, and also explains the vastness of the Buddha-field and the purity of the Buddha-field. Manjushri, at that time, in the teachings of that Bhagavan Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, there was a Bhikshu named Constant Contemplation, who possessed the four means of gathering and gathered sentient beings with the four means of gathering. He was well-established in the four noble lineages, attained the four analytical knowledges, possessed the four Brahma-viharas, abiding in great loving-kindness, abiding in great compassion, abiding in great joy, abiding in great equanimity, and was never separated from the abode of non-affliction. Manjushri, among the Bodhisattvas in the Buddha-field of that Bhagavan Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, the Bodhisattva Constant Contemplation was the most excellent. The Bodhisattva Constant Contemplation held the teachings of the Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, and like that Tathagata Boundless Wisdom, he held all the teachings of the unspeakable Buddhas Bhagavan. He thus abided in patience, and in each Buddha-field of each Tathagata, he also established immeasurable sentient beings in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. He, abiding in patience,

In some Buddha-fields, he manifests as a Buddha; in some, he manifests the conduct of a Bodhisattva; in some, he manifests the initial generation of the mind of enlightenment. Thus, Manjushri, the Bodhisattva who constantly observes, is endowed with such miraculous powers. Manjushri, if at that time, you think that the Bodhisattva who constantly observes is someone else, Manjushri, you should not view it that way. Why is that? Because the Tathagata Sarvarthasiddha, at that time, became known as the Bodhisattva who constantly observes. Manjushri, therefore, Bodhisattvas, great beings who desire to attain the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, should diligently guard the Buddha's teachings so that they do not quickly decline. Manjushri, for the sake of guarding the Buddha's teachings, disciples should also engage in guarding the Buddha's teachings. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan spoke these verses: Lion among men, supreme among men, wise in the world, all past Buddhas highly praised patience. Those who have not yet appeared to benefit the world, all supreme among men will also praise patience. One who is endowed with the power of patience can also strive for invincible enlightenment. By relying on supreme patience, the guide quickly attains enlightenment. Lions among men, those fearless in patience, when seeking supreme enlightenment, can also give their heads, hands, and feet. The wise do not become weary. With the power of patience, one can conquer all enemies. With the power of patience, one can overcome all afflictions. If one diligently cultivates patience, one will become self-born. With patience, one will attain the state of immortality. By cultivating patience, one becomes extremely handsome. By cultivating patience, one becomes the king of men. By relying on patience, one possesses excellent marks, and the self-born one in the world will become a Tathagata. With the power of patience, one overcomes misdeeds. The power of patience is the supreme of those powers. By cultivating patience, they have no opposition to enemies. Wise in the world, desiring to benefit beings, all self-born ones

Those who have passed away. Abiding in patience, having thoroughly subdued all the demons, With a mind of benefiting the world, thoroughly attaining enlightenment, The unsurpassed power is patience. There is nothing equal to the power of patience. That powerful one, by cultivating patience, Therefore, can endure all phenomena as they are. He is said to possess the power of a mind of benefiting others. Abiding in patience also cuts off all doubts. Abiding in patience, wisdom becomes pure. Abiding in patience, there is no doubt. Always cultivate the supreme power of patience. This patience is praised by the Buddhas. That patience also accomplishes all thoughts, Therefore, cultivate incomparable patience. Before long, you will attain knowledge of the world. Manjushri, therefore, a Bodhisattva should cultivate two kinds of patience: Patience without change from others, and patience in accordance with all phenomena. Manjushri, the Bhagavan Tathagata Sarvarthasiddha, in the past, when practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, thoroughly realized the equality of diligence. As is diligence, so is laziness. As is laziness, so is diligence. Those two dharmas also have one characteristic, namely, peacefulness, equal to Nirvana, without agitation and arrogance, without movement, without change, without action, without thought, devoid of thought, not thinking of each other, like not thinking of oneself. That is without characteristics, without attachment, unspeakable, ungraspable, without perception, devoid of perception, without thought, devoid of thought, without feeling, without sensation, without discrimination, without consciousness, unpolluted, not defiled by all afflictions, not abiding, without a knower. In order to realize those dharmas, diligence was initiated, and the practice was firmly established. Manjushri, in the past, in a past time, there were immeasurable kalpas, countless kalpas, inconceivable kalpas, unequaled kalpas, unmeasurable kalpas, beyond the unspeakable kalpas. At that time, the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, the world.
