That is, having served and made offerings to countless billions of Buddhas, and being born into a great lineage that has accumulated roots of virtue. Reciting and mastering the secret mantras of the Brahmins, having reached the other shore of the three Vedas. Being skilled in phonetics, possessing clear knowledge, being skilled in the classification of letters, as well as the five ancient stories, grammar, worldly knowledge, the lineage of sacrifices, and being extremely proficient in the characteristics of women and men. Following the discipline of one's own caste, being widely known, and becoming a teacher of the ordained. There was a Brahmin caste, like a great sala tree, blessed by Vishnu, who heard that a Buddha named "Buddha Unsurpassed Diligence" would appear in the world, and he thought to himself: From our secret mantras, one who possesses the thirty-two major marks of a great being will only go in two directions, there will be no third. If he remains in the home, he will become a wheel-turning monarch who is most victorious over the four continents, a king of Dharma possessing seven precious things. These seven precious things are: the precious wheel, the precious elephant, the precious horse, the precious woman, the precious jewel, the precious householder, and the precious minister. These are the seven precious things. He will have a thousand sons, brave, valiant, possessing excellent limbs, and able to destroy the enemy's forces. He will subdue the world of the four continents with Dharma, not with weapons, and will abide therein. If he shaves his hair and beard, puts on saffron robes, and goes forth from home into homelessness, he will become a Thus-Gone One, an Arhat, a Perfectly Awakened Buddha, complete in knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a Knower of the World, an unsurpassed guide for taming beings, a teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, a Bhagavan. He thought to himself, it is difficult to find such a great being in the world, I will become a Thus-Gone One, an Arhat, a Perfectly Awakened One.

Let us go to where the Buddha Unexcelled Perseverance is. The Blessed One, the Tathagata, Unexcelled Perseverance, should be known as to whether he possesses the thirty-two marks of a great being or not. If he possesses them, then he should undoubtedly be recognized as a complete Buddha. If he does not possess them, then it would be good to see such a noble being. Then, a Brahmin of the Brahmin caste, like a great Sala tree, blessed by Vishnu, surrounded and led by sixty thousand sons of Brahmins, went to where the Tathagata Unexcelled Perseverance was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, Unexcelled Perseverance, circumambulated him three times, and then sat to one side. The Brahmin of the Brahmin caste, like a great Sala tree, blessed by Vishnu, then asked the Tathagata Unexcelled Perseverance, saying: Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who has truly entered the Great Vehicle, who has truly entered the immeasurable Vehicle, who has truly entered the countless, inconceivable, unequaled, unmeasurable, unspeakable Vehicle, completely purify the perfection of discipline? Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva train in order to completely purify the perfection of discipline? When the perfection of discipline is completely purified, what has the Bodhisattva Mahasattva completely purified? Having asked this, the Tathagata Unexcelled Perseverance said to the Brahmin of the Brahmin caste, like a great Sala tree, blessed by Vishnu: Brahmin, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to learn the perfection of discipline and wishes to completely purify the perfection of discipline should abandon killing. He should not fixate on killing. He should also abandon taking what is not given, and should not fixate on taking what is not given. He should also abandon sexual misconduct in desire, and should not fixate on sexual misconduct in desire. He should also abandon lying.

All these dharmas should be known, and one should not fixate on them, nor should one manifest attachment. Thus, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should train in the perfection of morality. Thus, with the perfection of morality completely purified, the Bodhisattva will obtain the appearance of the extremely peaceful ground, not grasping any dharma, nor manifesting attachment to any dharma. One does not abide because of attachment to any dharma. Whoever sees thus, sees dependent origination. Whoever sees dependent origination, does not see any dharma. Whoever does not see any dharma, knows nothing at all. Whoever knows nothing at all, acts for the sake of enlightenment. Whoever acts for the sake of enlightenment, does not act for the sake of anything. Whoever does not act for the sake of anything, will realize enlightenment. Whoever realizes enlightenment, does not realize anything, and whoever does not realize anything, this is called the complete purification of morality. Whoever truly knows such indeterminate dharmas as they are, this is called the complete purification of morality. Whoever has complete purification of morality, sees the nature of reality.
