From the top: By that root of virtue, may one never be ignorant of the Dharma for countless kalpas. May one never regard discipline as the essence. May one never regard samadhi and the like as the essence. May one always and continuously be devoted to the Perfection of Wisdom. May one never fixate on the Perfection of Wisdom as a real entity. For example, just as a person crosses the great ocean by boat and then abandons the boat and goes wherever he pleases, so too, the monk King of Clouds knows the Perfection of Wisdom, but does not become attached to the Perfection of Wisdom. For example, just as a person who desires fire uses fire to accomplish what is needed, but also protects against the harm of burning, so too, the Bodhisattva King of Clouds sees all dharmas through the Perfection of Wisdom, but also protects against the harm of attachment. Although he shows the Perfection of Wisdom to others, he also averts the harm of attachment. Although he performs the deeds of a Buddha in immeasurable Buddha-fields through the Perfection of Wisdom, he does not grasp at those sentient beings or those Buddhas. Manjushri, what do you think? Do you think that the one who was called the monk King of Clouds at that time and at that moment was someone else? Manjushri, you should not view it that way. Why is that? The Tathagata Sarvarthasiddha was the one who was called the monk King of Clouds at that time and at that moment. Manjushri, therefore, with whatever skillful means one is endowed, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva should practice the Perfection of Wisdom with the skillful means with which the monk King of Clouds practiced the Perfection of Wisdom. A Bodhisattva who is endowed with such skillful means completely purifies immeasurable Buddha-fields. He purifies countless, inconceivable, incomparable, immeasurable, and inexpressible Buddha-fields. Then again, the Blessed One spoke to the youthful Manjushri: Manjushri, the Tathagata Sarvarthasiddha

Having accomplished this, in the past, when Bodhisattvas practiced the conduct of Bodhisattvas, they meditated on the Bodhisattva's Samadhi called Tranquility. They thoroughly familiarized themselves with it, made it their path, their support, were diligent in it, became extremely intimate with it, skillfully crafted it, and brought it to perfect completion. Through this, they realized that the Perfection of Generosity is tranquil and extremely tranquil. The Perfection of Discipline, the Perfection of Patience, the Perfection of Diligence, the Perfection of Meditation, and the Perfection of Wisdom were also realized as tranquil and extremely tranquil. Just as the unconditioned realm is tranquil and extremely tranquil, so too are the six perfections realized as tranquil and extremely tranquil. Just as the unconditioned realm is unborn and unceasing, so too are the six perfections unborn and unceasing. Just as self is not perceived in all of everything, so too are the six perfections not perceived in all of everything. Just as the six perfections are, so too are all phenomena unborn and unceasing. All phenomena are tranquility, and even that tranquility is not perceived. The tranquility of what is also not perceived. Manjushri, in the past, in a bygone era, in countless eons, inconceivable, incomparable, immeasurable, beyond expression, beyond the beyond, in an eon called Sunlight, a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Supreme Guide of beings to be tamed, Teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, Bhagavan, named All-Subduing One, appeared in the world. A monk named Tranquil Intelligence, who attended upon that Tathagata All-Subduing One, for eighty crore years, desiring unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, attended upon him with delight, not with displeasure. He went to that Bhagavan, the Tathagata All-Subduing One, and said this: "Bhagavan,"

What Dharma should a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who seeks to learn in the realm of the departed, peaceful Buddha, diligently practice? After this request, the Tathagata All-Subduing One spoke thus to the Bhikshu Peaceful Wisdom: "Bhikshu Peaceful Wisdom, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to learn in the realm of the Buddha should diligently practice the Paramita of Giving. Bhikshu, how should one act so that I may perfect the Paramita of Giving? A Bodhisattva Mahasattva should not fixate on the essence of giving, but should not refrain from giving. One should not fixate on the essence of the object of giving, but should not fail to seek an object of giving. One should not fixate on the essence of the giver, but should not fail to become a giver. Thus, one should not fixate on the nature of action, but should not contradict the appropriation of action. One should not fixate on the nature of learning, but should not fail to learn the wisdom of the Buddha. That giving should also be dedicated to Bodhi, but one should not fixate on the essence of Bodhi. One should not fixate on the essence of dedication, but one should not fail to dedicate the roots of virtue. Bhikshu, it is like this: for example, the reflection of the moon appearing in water should not be understood as the moon, nor should it be understood as not the moon; likewise, all things should be understood. If giving is done in such a way, the Paramita of Giving will be perfected." Then, the Bhikshu Peaceful Wisdom, to whom the Tathagata All-Subduing One had taught the Paramita of Giving through such giving, became endowed with immeasurable wisdom of the complete dedication of giving. Manjushri, if at that time, at that moment, you were to think that the Bhagavan Tathagata All-Subduing One, who had become the Bhikshu named Peaceful Wisdom, who was instructed for the sake of attaining the inconceivable appearance of the dedication of giving, was someone else, Manjushri, you should not view it that way. Why is that? The Tathagata All-Accomplishing One was the Bhikshu at that time, at that moment.
