If it is said that by associating with a foolish person wearing gray clothes, one can understand and master the emptiness of all Dharmas through teaching and learning, that is not true. Shariputra, at that time, even if a monk who has broken his vows obtains a cup of wine, he will think that the Buddha has explained it to the gray-clothed ones. What do you think? A person with much attachment, hatred, and ignorance, who is greedy for reading scriptures, who covets the benefits of worldly writings, and whose behavior is impure and improper, can such a person believe in the Dharma of emptiness, which is devoid of anything and eternally empty? Can he obtain the complete fruits of a renunciate? World-Honored One, he cannot. Shariputra, some monks, in order to obtain robes, food, bedding, and medicine, praise the pure observance of precepts, do not accumulate too much, do not crave idle talk, do not cling to external doctrines, and are diligent day and night, like sharpening an arrowhead. If such a person diligently practices the eightfold noble path with a single mind, it is still difficult for him to understand the Dharma of emptiness, which is devoid of anything. What need is there to mention those who are deeply ignorant, without desire, without faith, and without understanding? Shariputra, look at that person. Because he does not understand the unsurpassed teachings of the Tathagata, he destroys my true Dharma and brings great sorrow of decline to himself and others. Such a great enemy is the great enemy of the world, and it is said in the scriptures that this is a person who cuts off the lineage. Such a person does not appreciate the kindness of the Buddha, but thinks that he and others have come forth from the household and that it is not appropriate to practice this Dharma. Therefore, Shariputra, the Tathagata has taught such a Dharma in order to cut off all kinds of evils in the future. If some monks, whose precepts are all broken, who destroy the Dharma, and who have distorted right view, hear this scripture, they will be frightened and restore their precepts. Why? Because a person who has broken his vows is like striking a gong only once.

Among them are the forms of noble beings and the races that dwell within those who wear Dharma robes. Some, hearing this Dharma text, find joy in their hearts, and the Buddhas will offer to the names of these people. Why is it said that one should protect the path of the Buddha and attend to it? Shariputra, the name of that person is the true realm of the Buddha's path. If some virtuous men and women wish to hear the Dharma of practitioners, then listen to this Dharma text. It is possible to surpass hundreds, thousands, myriads, and billions of kotis. Why is that? The Tathagata Buddhas, after a long time, initially appear in the world. Even though they appear in the world, they gradually disappear. The ninth chapter is the chapter on separately resolving doubts. The Buddha said to Shariputra: There are three kinds of people who, upon hearing the exposition of this Dharma text, will not be pleased in their hearts, nor will they have faith. What are these three? The first is a monk who has broken his vows. The second is a person who is a monk rising upwards. The third is one who expounds the Dharma unclearly and has attachment to the view of self. Such a person will abandon such a true and profound Dharma text, not contradicting it, completely abandoning it, and growing in the company of the blind and the gatherings of friends. Therefore, Shariputra, I have taught you this Dharma text of mine and entrusted it to you. Why should you know this? Because after the Tathagata's passing, a monk who чистоly upholds the precepts will be able to generate joy and faith in this profound Dharma text in his heart, and one who чистоly upholds the precepts should always collect and hold it. One who has broken the precepts should always keep away from it. Why is that? Because when a foolish person hears the exposition of true and upright words, he will perceive it as suffering. Shariputra, how the form of a monk who has broken his vows is formed, the Tathagata has already explained in detail and extensively. Shariputra, a monk who has broken his vows does not believe in the rituals of upholding the Dharma's precepts. A foolish person does not like wisdom. A miserly person does not like to hear the exposition of generosity. A lazy person who rises upwards does not like to hear this Dharma that is without arrogance and laziness, even if he hears it
