Therefore, the Tathagata cuts off all discriminations by the awareness of mindfulness. The Buddhas say that enlightenment has no discrimination. Shariputra, discrimination for anyone, etc., means discriminating all things as self-view, as well as views of person, sentient being, and life, and also annihilationism and eternalism. Ordinary people are accomplished in discriminating in this way. Some people do not have such discriminations because they can distinguish that all dharmas are empty, without self-view, without person, without sentient being, without life. When thinking in this way, the mind gains joy and peace, obtains the supreme doctrine of emptiness, and does not feel fear or dread. Such a person recognizes that the five aggregates are illusory and unreal, without true truth. The twelve entrances and eighteen realms are also illusory and unreal, without true truth. Such a person also does not discriminate about Nirvana. They do not think about Nirvana, nor do they say, "I can think about Nirvana, and by practicing Dharma, I can attain emptiness and peace." They also do not discriminate about that state of emptiness and peace. They also do not think that they have not attained it. Shariputra, this is called non-contradictory forbearance. Such a person, even in this supreme doctrine of non-contradictory forbearance, cannot find his own name. Shariputra, anything, etc., is called the mark of forbearance. If there is no mark, then it is the forbearance of the mark of non-contradictory forbearance. Shariputra, what do you think? If someone cannot even obtain a mark for such forbearance, then will that person obtain the mark of self-view, the mark of person, the mark of sentient being, the mark of life, and the mark of existence? Absolutely not. If someone can attain such wisdom, they should receive offerings, because his name is a son of the Buddha. His name is one who has attained non-regression. Shariputra, such a name is the door to the doctrine of all the Buddha's teachings, without the discrimination arising from the awareness of mindfulness. There is no "what is this," and there is no "what is that," because ignorance makes them indulge in the masses, and then they tell of wrong views.

By employing the forms of perception in one's own memory to discriminate, one shows people, "This is the Buddha's Dharma, this is the path of the noble ones." Such ignorance reviles and slanders the Buddhas of the past, future, and present. Such an ignorant person is called a bad friend, not a virtuous friend. Shariputra, even if an enemy takes one's life, it only results in the loss of one body. Such an ignorant person, by teaching the Dharma in an impure way, causes sentient beings to suffer great misery like thieves for thousands of millions of kalpas. That person, with the darkness of ignorance covering the Bodhi of the Buddhas, and the womb of the mind again desiring attachment, connects and clings to one another. Because of engaging in desire, one goes and comes in the five paths, without shame, and birth and death are unceasing. Therefore, Shariputra, teaching the Dharma in an impure way obtains extremely great sin, and also becomes a bad friend to sentient beings, and also slanders the Buddhas of the past, future, and present. Shariputra, let alone the sentient beings of Jambudvipa (the southern continent), if someone were to take the lives of all the sentient beings in the three-thousand great-thousand world realms, the sin of teaching the Dharma in an impure way would be greater. Why? Because that person destroys all of the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhi of the Buddhas, strives for the sake of the deeds of Mara, and also causes sentient beings to endure the misery of thieves for hundreds of thousands of millions of lifetimes, only able to bind and not able to liberate. Such a person is clearly a bad friend to sentient beings. With false words, one slanders and reviles the Buddhas among the many people. Because of such causes and conditions, sentient beings will fall into the great hells. Many teachings are given about seeing the meaning of perverted sentient beings, therefore one is called by the bad name "perverted view." Shariputra, clinging to the view of self, the view of person, and the view of sentient being is a common occurrence of falling into perversion. Not seeing peace, yet quickly cutting off, there are many instances of obtaining the path. Why? Because it is easy to see.
