Having moved a little away from the place where the false man was leading the blind, (the false man) seized all the possessions of (the blind men), and made the other blind men beg for food, and then returned. The false man said to those blind men: Have you accumulated a lot? Have you encountered giving? They replied: We have not encountered it. The false man said: Put all your things here, and I will lead you to make great offerings. Then the blind men put down all their possessions and followed the false man. Then the false man led all five hundred blind men to a deep pit, and then said: This place is very good, there are many great offerings gathered here, you each face east and look, ordering them: Look at them giving wealth, like hailstones, all falling into the pit at once. Shariputra, in the future, there will be monks who are greedy to read the scriptures of silence, and when preaching the Dharma, they will adorn it with false words, making others believe, and the evil demon will then delude the masses, obscuring and cutting off the good Dharma. Are there some people who are greedy for sounds and words, and for embellished praises? If someone is greedy to read the scriptures of silence, the demon will delude and disturb them, making them uneasy. If a monk practices the Buddha's Dharma, it will make them doubt, and make people not offer. Even if there are two or three monks, after reading the Buddhist scriptures, they go to seek the scriptures of silence, I have seen before, praising them as good, those people and so on are deluded by the demon, covering the eyes of wisdom, and are very greedy for the benefits of offerings, looking at those scriptures of silence, it is like a group of blind people being deceived by a false man, all falling into a deep pit and dying. Shariputra, those blind men are monks, they abandon the Buddha's supreme path, and go to seek the scriptures of silence. The false man is the evil demon. The deep pit is the path of offerings.

It is like a group of blind people who lose all the wealth they have obtained, saying they are going to perform great charity, but end up falling into a deep pit. My disciples are also like them, abandoning coarse clothes and poor food, following for the sake of performing great charity, seeking good offerings, and responding to worldly talk. As a result, they lose great wisdom and fall into the deep pit of the Avici hell. Furthermore, Shariputra, a person who preaches impurely does not understand and follow the Thus-Come One's intentions. If he is not proficient himself but preaches the Dharma to others, that person immediately obtains five faults that others do not know, only monks who have obtained the divine eye and the gods know. What are the five? First, when preaching the Dharma, he harbors fear in his heart, fearing that others will criticize him. Second, he preaches the Dharma to others while harboring fearful sorrow in his heart. Third, he is a vulgar person, without true wisdom. Fourth, everything he says is impure, all just words and phrases. Fifth, the words and phrases are disorganized, each excerpted from the sutras separately. Therefore, being among the vulgar, he harbors fear and worry in his heart. Such a vulgar person has no wisdom, no certainty in his heart, is arrogant and lazy, uses small causes and conditions, seeks fame, and preaches the Dharma to others while harboring doubt and regret in his heart. That person endures the poisonous arrows of his own attachment, hatred, and ignorance day and night. Why? Shariputra, that person cannot definitively understand the categories of the Dharma, yet preaches the Dharma to others, his heart is displeased and unhappy, and even if he is happy, it quickly disappears. Shariputra, I say that impure preaching has such faults and sins, and one cannot obtain the straight path. Such meaning is not known by all monks, nor by the gods, only I know it. Furthermore, a monk who preaches impurely does not understand the Thus-Come One's teachings and preaches, telling others that in other Dharma texts there is no view of self, no view of person, no sentient being, no life. That person

I use words to express, saying there is self-view, there is person-view, there are sentient beings, there is life. By this, I slander the Buddha, slander the Dharma, slander the Sangha. The sin of slandering the Three Jewels cannot be known by gods and humans, only the Buddha knows. Shariputra, that person also says that preaching the Dharma is impure, I know that is a fault. Others with supernatural powers and all the gods cannot know, only the Buddha knows. Shariputra, now I will explain it to you with an analogy. If someone does not understand the meaning of the Buddha's path in the scriptures, but preaches impure Dharma to others, how much unwholesome fruit will that person attain? Shariputra, what do you think? Are there more sentient beings or more people in Jambudvipa? World Honored One, there are very many. Shariputra, if some evil person takes the lives of so many beings, will that person gain much or little sin? World Honored One, very much. Similarly, if a foolish person does not understand the Buddha's path, but preaches impure Dharma to others, that sin is even greater. Why? Because that person's preaching is impure, destroying the unsurpassed Buddha's path. The past is past. Why? Shariputra, the future Buddhas will also say that all dharmas are always empty, there is no self-view, no person-view, no sentient being, no life. Shariputra, the future Buddhas will also say that all dharmas are eternally empty, there is no self-view, no person-view, no sentient being, no life. Shariputra, now the Buddhas in the ten directions, in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, also say that all dharmas are eternally empty, there is no self-view, no person-view, no sentient being, no life. Shariputra, that is called the unsurpassed Dharma of all Buddhas, all dharmas have no characteristics, because there is no emptiness, therefore there is no attainment. The external nature is empty and peaceful, so there is no birth, and no cessation. There is no name of oneself and no name of one's own nature, all is empty.
