Why? Because it is to speak truthfully. People in the world do not like to speak the truth, but only crave what is in accordance with their own minds. Such a bhikshu is not pure or open in his mind when teaching the Dharma, and his sins increase, and it is better for sentient beings to be born in hell. Shariputra, this bhikshu who is named as having broken his vows is called the five arrows of affliction, and he truly falls into the hell of sentient beings. Again, Shariputra, a bhikshu who has broken his vows is shameless and without shame, disturbed by the senses, with an impure body, impure speech, impure deeds of mind, and impure rituals are also accomplished. Even the way he wears his clothes is all contrary to the Dharma, and he likes and craves false words. He cannot restrain his tongue, and his mind is always wild, clinging to dirt and blemishes. Shariputra, it is like filling an earthenware pot with excrement, pus, blood, and rotten things, which stink to the sky. If you pour out the impure things and fill it with sandalwood incense, and then pour out the sandalwood incense again, such earthenware pots and other things will stink. World Honored One, such an earthenware pot filled with stinking excrement, if it solidifies, there will only be a stinking smell, and no sandalwood fragrance. Shariputra, if a person uses impure faith and other senses, leaves home, and does not study the Dharma, and meets a bad friend, he will follow what he teaches. Shariputra, what is called a bad friend? A bad friend is always greedy for play and amusement, dissolute and shameless, and his words are chaotic. He does not restrain the senses, his mind is not focused, he is foolish like a sheep, and if he associates with such a bad friend, he will lose even the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once returning, the fruit of not returning, the fruit of an arhat, and even the fruit of being born in heaven, let alone the path of liberation? That person is skilled only in the sinful deeds of destroying the Dharma, and associates and lives with those who destroy the Dharma. This person's deeds of body are impure, his deeds of speech are impure, his deeds of mind are impure, and he does not respect those who uphold the precepts.

Having achieved, upon death, one enters the evil path. What is the evil path? The evil path refers to the paths of beings named animals, hells, hungry ghosts, and non-gods (asuras). There are also evil paths such as the worm Asulinga, the worm Bagalapoga, the worm Abintse'udzaga, and the worm Jigoga. People are born many times among these worms. Shariputra, this person, because of following evil friends, even if born among humans, will be separated from parents in life and die, harming neighbors, destroying homes, and will eventually be born into the eight adversities. Abandoning the eight joys, with intense greed, anger, and ignorance, constantly indulging in games and pleasures. This person is unrestrained and has no sense of shame, speaks vulgar words, and cannot control the mind. Like a foolish sheep, driven by greed, hatred, and ignorance, eventually becoming deaf and mute, blind and lame, with crippled hands and feet, and ultimately led by evil friends to a place without Buddha. Even if fortunate enough to encounter the Buddha's era, one does not like self-reflection, does not like to hear the Dharma, and does not want to be with the Buddha and the Sangha. Associating with such evil people, developing attachment to inferior beings, giving rise to wrong views about upright matters, and giving rise to right views about perverse matters, this is called inferior desire. Shariputra, a person of inferior wisdom will ultimately be unable to stop, unable to escape the sorrowful heart of the path and Nirvana. Shariputra, encountering evil friends and suffering such diseases of decline, such a person with evil signs, if hearing this profound Dharma, will be terrified and fearful, like falling into a deep abyss, and will eventually fall into the abyss of sin. Why is this so? Shariputra, this is because the Dharma spoken is the grave sin of a monk who has broken vows. What is the name of breaking vows? It means that all the vows received are destroyed, all the words spoken are contrary to the Buddha's teachings, all the actions taken are not in accordance with the Dharma, and there are many contradictions. The heart is full of greed, the behavior is unrestrained, and there is no awareness.
