Unable to stand on the ground, upon hearing it, they panic and fear, ejaculate semen, and cover their ears. When vulgar people see others profiting from offerings, they develop a desire and think, "We should also learn to speak such words." Shariputra, such people abandon the supreme treasure of the Dharma, fall into the pursuit of fame and gain, and are enemies of the Sangha. They run to those wearing colored secular clothes, and those evil people preach the Dharma to them for the sake of offerings, praising the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha to maintain their livelihood, seeking only wealth, servants, and slaves to sustain their lives. Desiring clothing and food, they praise giving as if craving for themselves, saying that giving can lead to rebirth in heaven. Within the Buddha's teachings, they denigrate giving and praise inferior Dharma, saying that vulgarity is the inner essence. They say with such words that through the cause of great giving, one can attain rebirth in heaven, but they do not understand the true meaning of the words. Not understanding the scriptures, they only know superficial and shallow vulgar Dharma, clinging to the view of self and attachment to persons, abandoning the supreme teachings. Shariputra, as a result of such teachings, some people will develop faith, leave their homes, gather with evil people, and be unable to strive to seek the supreme and profound teachings. They proclaim the existence of attainable things, the view of self, persons, lifespan, and soul. They speculate on Dharma that has no connection with memory and consciousness, arbitrarily interpreting it in the name of strange categories and sutras, sometimes proclaiming permanence and annihilation, sometimes proclaiming inaction. Shariputra, at that time, my Dharma will become many worldly Dharmas, causing the minds of beings with upright views to be destroyed. Therefore, Shariputra, my pure and immaculate Dharma will gradually decline and perish due to such causes. Shariputra, I have long been in the cycle of birth and death, tormented by suffering, and if I attain enlightenment, then those who are tamed will be purified and liberated. Shariputra, some monks think that there are attainable things.

If one clings to the view of 'I' and the view of 'person,' one cannot understand the conduct spoken of by the Tathagata. If one says there is a real view of 'I,' and that there are 'person' and 'dharma,' such a person should not even be given a drop of water. If that person hears the Dharma of emptiness and has faith, and their mind is pure, without fear or doubt, then they should be guided like an ordinary person, and led again into the true, signless Dharma. Also, having left home, they should fully receive the precepts. Why? Shariputra, if someone does not abandon such a view, their name is called 'foolish.' Shariputra, my saying that 'I exist' in an illusory way, using worldly causes and conditions, is not the ultimate teaching. And if someone says, 'I also use worldly causes and conditions and say 'I exist',' that person cannot comprehend the Dharma of no birth, no cessation, and no sign. If they contradict everything I say, they are not my disciple. Shariputra, if someone says, 'Why does the Tathagata, like worldly causes and conditions, say that the non-existent Dharma is without defilements? The Tathagata, for the sake of the world, speaks with untrue words upon the races, and in other Dharma texts there are many statements that a person exists. What the Buddha says should not be false.' Shariputra, to such a person, refute them by saying that all the Buddha's teachings are emptiness, without a lord, and without inherent nature. The mundane is illusory and untrue, not the ultimate teaching. The Tathagata speaks the ultimate teaching, not speaking of the view of 'I' and the existence of a 'person.' The words spoken by an illusory person have no desire or attachment. A person without wisdom cannot be compared to the Buddha, nor is there transcendence. Shariputra, the wisdom of the Tathagata is inconceivable. By using such wisdom, the mind knows the mind. If someone says they are equal to the Buddha, then for the supreme Buddha, the Great Naga, the King of the Great Dharma, it is not appropriate to retort that the Buddha said a person exists.
