The perfectly enlightened Buddha appears like the moon. For the sake of the future, to show the uninterrupted karma of drawing blood with malicious intent, as well as the various different dharmas of the extremes of great desires and the schism of the Sangha, are also shown. Even hundreds of millions of demons cannot draw blood from the body of the Tathagata. The body of the Tathagata has no blood, no bones, no tendons, and no feeling of suffering. Sentient beings consider the three bases to be unreasonable. They think that the Tathagata has a wound. The Tathagata dwells in his own nature, but he appears to be in harmony with the world. For example, if someone strikes another person with a stick, causing them to bleed, or kills them with the intention to kill, then it is thought that the Tathagata has strengthened that karma. If one draws blood from the Tathagata with malicious intent, then one can understand that person's mind and accurately show the uninterrupted karma. Thus, the Tathagata shows the various distinctions of karma for the sake of the future. For example, a doctor teaches his son the names of the types of herbs, saying, "These are five kinds of herbs, this is Kava," indicating the various aspects of the types of herbs. The boy also learns in this way and comes to know the types of herbs. Then, when the doctor dies, the boy says, "Alas, father, alas, father, you taught me the types of herbs, this herb is like this, the leaves are like this." Similarly, the Tathagata also manifests the emanations of all the bases of learning, showing what can be healed, what cannot be healed, what is uninterrupted, abandoning the Sutras, the extremes of great desires, and so on, meaning that it will become like this in the future. Then, after the Tathagata has completely passed into Nirvana, the monks, like the doctor's son, know that this karma is like this, as the Tathagata taught in the Sutras. For example, when the moon is eclipsed by Rahu, people think that the moon

Know that the moon has eclipses. The gods above know that the moon has eclipses as if it were a day. Why? Because their years are long and people's years are short. Son of good family, similarly, gods and people think that the Tathagata's life is short. Just as the higher and higher gods perceive that the moon has eclipses in an instant. The higher and higher gods also show that the Tathagata shows nirvana countless times. He also shows countless times the afflictions, aggregates, gods, and the Lord of Death's demons, and also shows thousands of births, and knows how to show many things that are in accordance with the world. Thus, the Tathagata is immeasurable. Therefore, he is constant and stable. For example, the moon is pleasing and beautiful to all beings, therefore it is called the moon. It is not pleasing to those who are dominated by desire and practice greed, hatred, and delusion. Similarly, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, is naturally pleasing and supremely beautiful to those beings who desire the Dharma. It is not pleasing to those who have hatred in their minds, therefore, the Tathagata is like the moon. For example, the sun changes and moves in three seasons: winter, summer, and autumn, and travels in three seasons. In winter, the sun travels very quickly. In summer, the sun travels moderately. In autumn, the sun travels long and the light is very hot. The Tathagata also shows three kinds of births in the three worlds: among beings with short lives, he shows an extremely short life, and beings think that the Buddha's life is short. To the hearers of the vehicle, he shows a short life like the winter sun. To the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, he shows a medium life like the summer sun. To the Buddhas,

Like the sun in summer, it appears to remain for a kalpa or more than a kalpa. Son of good family, from this Great Vehicle, I shall correctly reveal the secret and sacred Dharma of the Tathagata. In the future, those who teach the beneficial instructions of the sutra section of the sacred Dharma Great Vehicle should be regarded as like the clouds in the summer sky, as Bodhisattvas, great beings. The Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, upon hearing these profound words, are like being struck by the cold of winter. Therefore, I have correctly taught that their lifespan is short and that they will certainly experience death. The teaching of the Buddha's life, from the vast realm of the Buddha, like the sun in summer, I have taught that it is eternal and steadfast. I, like the sun, do not fall anywhere, and I also practice the nature of the sun and moon. Thus, the Tathagata truly appears in the three realms, this is the Dharma nature of the Buddhas. Son of good family, furthermore, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and other planets, when they travel together with the sun and moon, sentient beings cannot see them, but they do not disappear or fall. This is because their light is very faint, and the light of the sun and moon is very strong, enough to overwhelm them. Similarly, the Tathagata constantly appears to be born together with the assembly of stars of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, and also shows complete Nirvana, but these Hearers and Solitary Buddhas are not impermanent or unstable. Although they are permanent and steadfast, they are like the stars in the daytime, and sentient beings cannot see them. This, like the sun, is the Dharma nature of the Solitary Buddhas. For example, when the sun and moon are covered by clouds, they do not appear, and sentient beings think that they have disappeared, but they do not cease to exist. Son of good family, similarly, when the Tathagata does not dwell in the world, like the sun and moon covered by clouds, it appears as if the three realms are destroyed, but the three realms do not cease to exist,
