Even until the end of life, do not delight in such a Dharma, and do not dwell in this way for the sake of great desire for self. I myself know that I have not attained the fruit. A wise king thinks that this monk has attained the fruit, is a Buddha, and proclaims it among all the wise people in the world, and also teaches the sutras to the consorts and princes like poetry. By doing so, the merit of the praising king and ministers will increase greatly. I say that the monk is merely practicing celibacy and keeping the precepts, and that the monk has not committed a fundamental offense. I say that it is not to become a superior teacher beyond human Dharma, but to keep the precepts and be content with few desires. Even if praised in this way, compared to one's own devout faith, for a monk who conforms to the Buddha's words and scriptures, I say that there is not even a slight fault. Furthermore, here some monks teach the great sutra of the Tathagatagarbha. All sentient beings have the Buddha-nature, and each of their bodies possesses this Buddha-nature. Sentient beings will become Buddhas after exhausting the forms of afflictions, except for those who are extremely greedy. In this regard, a king or a minister of the king might say this: Monk, will you become a Buddha or not? Do you have the Buddha-nature or not? To this, that monk would say: Venerable one, who knows whether I will become a Buddha or not? However, my body does have the Buddha-nature. Then, that person said to the monk: Monk, if you are not just extremely greedy, then think that I will become a Buddha. Then, that monk said to him: Venerable one, that Dharma is Sanskrit Roman transliteration: niścita, Chinese literal meaning: certain) in my body. If he says that, then, for that monk, should it be said that there is a fault of being superior to human Dharma, or should it be said that there is not? Even if it is said that there is Buddha-nature, it is only for those who have generosity, discipline, wisdom, and Dharma. Furthermore, monk
